What do you think of our county fair steer?

I agree.  Looks good, but I would make sure he gets plenty of excercise before showdays and try and hook that naval when showing him to bring the center of his top up nice and full.  Glad to hear he's doing well for you.

    Shorthorn Show Heifers For Sale

The first heifer listed (spotted heifer) is an X-Ray Vision out of a CCS Equity's Charmer daughter.  She is a late June heifer.  Cocky, flashy, and loaded with muscle. The second (Columbus roan heifer) is a TF Shooter out of an NPS Spirit of Rose cow.  She is a May.  I have to say that she is...

Who would you breed this cow too?

Currently, semen is listed for $20/unit.  Although, I think we may be running a special for state fair.  We're taking four head down there, two of which are Shooter calves.  If you're going, feel free to stop by and take a look.  We're stalled in barn 110 (upstairs in the open barn).  We'll have...

    Wheat Germ

A lot of your bigger labeled products that you squirt out of a jug are simply this!  I recommend it.  We've seen increase in appetite, especially at shows.  Calves gain quicker and I've seen it grow better hair.

Who would you breed this cow too?

If you are looking for a plus calf, it sounds like sunseeker is the way to go.  I've heard those calves are easy to market.  If you want a pb, I've got a bull that would most definetely thicken her up,  widen up those feet & bone and let her drop that gut too!  She's got a pretty nice front end...

    False Test Results

I agree with Jill.  Some breeds do have different wording/determination of this phrase.

    diarrhea in steer

I agree with Jill.  Try removing him from pasture and pulling back/removing feed for a day or two.

    JBS Fringe-shorthorn bull

I've only seen pics of him, but I would be interested to see him in person b/c he looks extremely/overly hairy in the pics.  I'd like to see the actual bone, depth, and muscle underneath that.

    Sand for coolroom bedding-UPDATE

Sand would cause more problems than it's worth.  I agree with mulch.  We get trailerloads from the city.  They need to get rid of the trees they cut down and chop up, so they don't even charge us for it as long as we go pick it up.

    False Test Results

The clean by pedigree statement could very well be null and void in a case like this.  Very unfortunate.  Makes one uneasy about buying breeding stock.

    Help a dummy...please???

Thanks Tony!  I think it's important that we control the disease, but don't let it drive us away from great cattle.

    Help a dummy...please???

Since you are just interested in steers, it shouldn't matter whether or not your calf is a carrier of these diseases because a steer isn't breeding stock.  In case you ever do get into breeding stock, I encourage you to take a look at the differences between TH/PHA carriers and non-carriers. ...

    Eat'm or Breed'm

Whenever we have a heifer that is a little small, we have our veterinarian roughly measure her pelvis and tract to make sure she can handle having her first calf before we breed her.  Sometimes some of the really small framed heifers can surprise you.  They can possible have a much bigger pelvis...

    2009 shorthorn national jr show

I knew Texas has been wanting to host for a few years now.  The members I talked to said they just don't have the manpower put together to pull it off by themselves so a joint host would be great.  Personally, I'd like to see them just pick a couple/few locations and rotate it from year to year...

    2009 shorthorn national jr show

The 2009 Junior National was a lot of work, but a great success.  A lot of the reason that the midwest states host is because their membership numbers are higher.  It does take a lot of people to pull a big show like that together.  A lot of money too.  Our state association spent over two years...
