Yes DL, spiffy monitor. Also, cost more because it has a 7' aluminium platform. I have to weigh at several locations and it adapts well.

I use the Gallagher  scale in the alley. $2000 weigh bars, monitor, and platform. I love how easy it is to set up and move, one man job. Any inaccuracy's comes from the surface we put it on. Fits nice in a clip chute too.

I can only speak about Jazz and Shiver. I like my Jazz calves they come moderate for me 80 to 90 lbs. The only thing is they are later maturing the bone and hair come on late. I used Shiver on a variety, cows and 1st calf heifers. I believe he will be calving ease but will reserve judgement...

I always use 1.1 sq in. per every 100cwt. for beef. as a base, then adjust up or down based on muscling.

Right now with out a whole herd test it is hard to move any breeding cattle ( bulls or heifers of any age). With steers you have chance but they still need an inividual TB test. Your best bet is to call the state vet in Iowa and find out what they require.

I think the idea of show animals converting or gaining worse than commercial cattle happens when you are holding the animal for a particular show after he has reached his ideal market weight. It would be interesting to figure the cost/lb of gain on some of these cattle. I bet it would be a real...

DL, MN has applied for split state status. It is my understanding that if it is granted the bulk of the state will move up to level 2?. This won't help you much now, but it's something to keep in mind. Adding zinc ( zinpro) to the feed seems to help us with hoof health. Also, check with your vet about vaccinating for foot rot. I believe the product is Fusiguard.  Good luck.

This just happend to me 2 weeks ago. Heifer would not have a thing to do with the calf didn't even lick it off.  Started the calf then penned them together for 3-4 days  and watched to make sure the calf wasn't starving. Sometimes the calves need to get hungry to try by themselves. Took a week...
