    tieing calves up??

We always tie them up while we are around or working on them because it seems like they have less room to move around. Then we tie them down when we are doing other stuff just to be safe.

    Hereford Heifer - Opinions?

Nice Heifer. Would like to see a shot of her front end tho. She looks to be very moderate, well balanced, good boned and the hair is never hurts.  ;) Just hope she doesn't get too terminal. She should have a real nice set of EPD's too which is always an added bonus. I have a couple Channing...

High end show steers for sale

I like the black steer more than the white steer. The shorthorn steer looks like he isn't as nice of shouldered.

    $2200 PRIME Example......

I think it was in 2006. The Wisconsin State Fair Reserve Champion steer did not sell in Carrousel Farm's sale (floor was $900). The herdsman's daughter then picked out the calf just for an average show steer for her to show at her county fair. At the county fair it stood 3rd in class. 2 weeks...

    Jobs in Cattle Show Field

Taking care of other peoples show cattle maybe? Being a coop herd for some larger ranches? Just two ideas that came to mind.

    Mineral Supplements

What are some of the best minerals out there to feed to non lactating cows? I need to add some weight due to the fact some were first calf heifers that weaned nice size calves. Also, what are some minerals people feed during spring breeding season to increase conception. My conception rate...

what to look for in a shorthorn show steer?

One thing I've noticed with shorthorn steers is most of them tend to get to be like Clydesdale. Make sure he will be moderately framed and have good legs and structure everything else you can mostly live with.

Best set of calves for sell in Indiana right now!!!

Carrousel Farms had a really nice line-up of 60+ sale lots this year. Heifers averaged around $8,000. High steer was $11,750. I heard steers averaged around $2,300 on 55 head, not for sure on that tho. *I did not go to may's this year. I'm sure his looked nice, like always*

Too much Navel does it get ya?

What we do with calves that have a little more sheath is freeze it and then dip it in rubbing alcohol. Seems to work temporally.

    Crossfire

I have only seen a couple of them. I don't really know a lot about him. He tends to sire moderately framed hairy cattle that are pretty round made. Champion Hereford Heifer at Iowa State Fair this year i heard was out of him. I know there was a heifer calf at World Beef Expo that was out of...

    CRR About Time reactions.

We tried breeding most of our heifers to him this year. He throws a lot of white on him with a lot of showring appeal from what I'm seeing but the calves seem to be very popular and valuable. The hard part is getting him to stick. I've heard hes been having some pretty bad semen quality...

    leasing cows for embryos

I've heard of a bunch of people doing this. They send the coop herd the eggs they want put in and then just come back in the fall to get the resulting pregnancy. I've heard most guys just pay a flat rate fee per weaned calf when they come to pick them up.

    Ugliest Recip

We have a cow that is maybe not quite like that, but she raises some really good calves no matter what you cross her to. If I were to have a donor cow it would be her.

How do you prepare calves for sale?

We start creep feeding about a month after they are born but don't really do much with them til after state fair once the fats are gone. All we really do is deworm, tattoo, tag and use pour on. Now we are starting to bring calves in to put under fans and rinse. We have a problem getting our...

I'm sorry for not being able to get pictures up on these 2 calves. They have both been sold recently. We would love to work with all of you next year. We are expecting about 25 calves next year sired by some of the up and coming as well as proven bulls. Some sires that will be represented...
