    butchering show steers

Thanks for everyone input.  I don't wish to put down the company that processed the steer in the past they have done a good job with other peoples.  I was just checking if what I got was right.  At the moment A lawyer (family friend) is getting involved to see if he could get more answers. ...

They weighed the meat.  We are trying to get the hanging weight, they said they can't find the paper work!

    butchering show steers

The butchers response was shrinkage, bone and they had to trim a lot of fat.  This steer was not that big boned, fat cover he was right on the money not over done by no means.  We brought him home from OYE and feed him for one week before taking him to the butcher.  It just sounds like a lot of...

    Soon-to-be orphaned calf

being raised on a dairy I have bottle fed lots of calves.  I would agree with the last person put the calf in a corner or small chute. make sure the milk is warm and you may have to milk a little into the calf's mouth first so they can taste it.  You may have to do this several times before it...

On average how much meat should you bring home out of a 1400 lb show steer?  Does 1000lb of waste sound to much or is that normal? Thanks

    Going to Tulsa

The facilities are nice.  I would agree with the wash racks wash early or late water pressure stinks.  I never had a problem with the electric there. Good Luck.

    Friday Night Lights

I have a three year old cow out of Friday Night lights.  Does anyone have any breeding information on this bull...what he is out of.  Also any suggestions on what to breed her to this will be her second calf?  She is a little strait in her shoulder, moderate framed, thick.  Needs to be prettier...

    breaking a calf

We have always had good luck using a small pen to work them in that way they can't get to far away from you.  We also stay close to the fence that way if they try to bolt you have the fence to tie them to.  Good Luck and Don't give up yet.

    WEIRD CALF ALERT

Why the ear?  Why not send blood?  I can see sending the ear on a dead calf but not a live one.

    First time showing at OYE

I am guessing your daughter is the one in the Yellow shirt.  the only thing that I would have her do differently is have her relax her head just a little.  The heifers nose is pointing up to the sky.  Sometimes when you pull that head up to high it makes the calves look weak topped.  Keep up the...
