Adkins Mr Right On- Simmental bull question

Unless I'm reading the pedigree incorrectly, he's double-bred Dream On and also double-bred the Sophie cow....interesting..... certainly looks good.

    Bull Breeding Advise

Again, lots of variables come into play here.... But I'd certainly think a good, sound 5 year old could breed 35 plus cows in a 45 day breeding period.  By stretching that period to 90 days, he surely could get significantly more than that even.

    calving cameras frustration

I know it's possible, as I was able to watch our donor cow standing with her calf in the calving pen.  I'm 80 miles from the barn.  Send me a pm and I'll send you a contact email.

Better female maker ( Old Simmy Bulls )

I always like the Joker females... Now if you want to go older school yet....loved the Pineview Jazz females!  They might not make them the right color for you though!

    WS A Step Up

If I'm not mistaken, the bull's an Ebony's Grandmaster son.  I think the semen was pretty tight in the first year...don't know if there will be a whole lot of them around, other than owners.

    Hide color discrimination a joke...

Discouraging stuff, guys. This year in our area, with cattle prices so high, the off-colors...even greys, as selling right with the bunches.  The only ones that seem to still get hammered are the small groups...less that 5 head.  Doesn't matter if they are black or purple, they still get...

What's it cost to sex semen?

If I remember correctly, in speaking with Daniel at the Fullerton, Ne facility...they can sort using frozen semen...but it has to be used right away and can't be refrozen...that's the kicker.  Give Daniel a call...very pleasant young guy to work with...even though he is an Aggie!

    BCS what?

O.k....I gotta chime in...I "think" I know college football. Several points. 1. First and Foremost...OSU blew the chance for a championship game one evening in Ames...Simply can not lose to a mediocre team with a losing record and make the big show.  I agree there were tough circumstances, but...

    SAV Iron Mountain

I realize it's a little removed, but we have a sister to Iron Mountain's dam.  She's plenty easy going and fine to work with.  She's a big, ole girl! Heard good things about the Iron Mountains from the guy here clipping today...nothing negative.

    Dude 2 or Dude II

Dude was a true mellow yellow spotted bull.  Good performance; maybe not the easiest calver.  Had a couple daughters that were nice.  I'm too lazy to look him up today, but was he maybe an Achilles Superstar son?  We used him in the late 80's to early 90's.

Baby calves (from SA Commander) and one more

Commander was a stud.  I was around him numerous times.  I worked the sale when he sold at Sonderup Angus, pushing bulls in the chute.  Won't forget that morning; I think we started at 4:00 a.m., and I don't think that it was above 15 degrees that whole day! I want to say he was the high seller...

    Simmental x Angus Question

The bottom line to me is that the Simmental - Angus cross seems to be magical.  Makes the perfect animal.  There are many, many Simmental bulls that work very well on Angus cows.  I've seen numerous Simmental bulls that don't work well when bred Simmental, but make a good one everytime on an...

    Japanese Mini Trucks

I've had both a toyotal and a Ranger in the last few years...The Japanese rig has a tighter turning radius, can handle more mud, and is much better on fuel.  However, we don't take our rig down the road; just around the farm.

    Japanese Mini Trucks

We've had one on the farm for about 4 years now.  Never have had a problem with it.  Always starts right up and dependable.  As someone stated above, I'm not sure if you could get stuck with this rig...getting high-centered might be the only way.  It's light enough that it almost floats on...

RCR STETSON calving ease simmy ?

Don't know this Stetson bull at all.  But keep in mind...the cow carrying the calf has a direct input in the birthweight of the calf also.  We all tend to point fingers at the bull first (myself included), but I think it's a fact that the cow has more input in determining the birthweight.  An...

National Championship Game - LSU vs ????

Two comments... 1.  Okla. Light had a very poor loss late in the year to a subpar ISU team...that was their chance to get to the show...they blew it.  It would, however, be a very entertaining game. 2.  VT was, going in to the championship game Saturday, certainly one of the most over-rated...
