    Simmy Heifer..NEW addition

We attempted to breed a Dream On daughter to Trademark.  Really thought that could be a great combo.  Unfortunately for us, the heifer in question was cystic and after 18 months of messing with her repeatedly she headed down the road to the sale barn.

    New heifer!

No we haven't taken her out ( she was behaving a bit crazy) and we didn't feel it was safe for either our child or other participants.  She has come a long way, and hopefully our county fair (mid October) will get her enough experience before the Texas majors and next summer.  How about you?  We...

    New heifer!

Sorry it took so long.  This is our flushmate to your heifer (born 1-03-09)  Star Powerx KSSR Ashley.  These pictures were taken early August.  She is wet and upset because she hates new experiences.  Never posted pics here before so sorry if it is wrong.

    natural stride... shag...

We were told Not to use Sullivan's Stride for heifers.  If I recall the label on the container it may have implied not to use it on heifers.

    Texas Drought

We finally got two inches last Saturday night (SE Houston area).  My pasture was screaming for it.  Unfortunately it came with some strong winds.  Took the kids' trampoline airborne over an 8 ft chain link fence, across the drive, across the neighbors truck (yes, it caused damage) and up onto...

No decent pictures yet, but we will try to get to that after lamb validation this weekend.  It will be interesting to see how these girls grow up.

    New heifer!

Thanks for the info.  Mine already is a member.  Hopefully she will be participating in more events in the future with her new heifer.  Her first one was being bred during the activities this summer.  Love the breed and the people!!!

    New heifer!

My daughter probably has a flush mate.... Star Power and KSSR Ashley ... birth date for ours is January.  Brian is wonderful to work with.  (I assume she came from KSSR).  If you have questions about feeding, he is a good person to ask.  Good luck with your project.  We haven't posted pictures...

    Work ethic

Too much money given too easily to kids... A friend's daughter works at Sonic (only during peak hours) and averages $30.00 an hour with tips.  It's tough to explain to a kid why they should do something more time consuming or demanding.  On the other hand, I will say that hard...

Off topic - 2 year old gelding

I'm in the Houston, Texas area and people are practically (literally) giving horses away as their budgets tighten.  We recently decided to foster a horse from the humane society (free/ actually medical care and feed are deductible).  Have a quarter horse, broke for riding, may have worked...

    breeding cystic heifer

Hey everyone.  Happy New Year.  We are still working on getting my daughters' Simmental heifer bred.  After our county fair in Oct. we did get her to be checked out by a "reproductive specialist".  They discovered that she had a cyst on each ovary.  (No wonder 80 days with a bull failed). ...

    An everyday struggle

Red,  I am so pleased for you that you acknowledge your illness and seek help for it.  Unfortunately, my father came from a family where things were pushed under the rug.  Even more unfortunately, he took his own life two years ago.  It was a bit devisive in my family because my mother didn't...

ice storm of 12/10/07 and beyond

I'm hoping that everyone's situation has improved.  You have made me feel greatful for the whopper of an electric bill I'm expecting for running the AC here in humid December in Houston. ::) ::) ::)

    black hided cats

Our black cat (neutered male) is the most popular fellow in the area.  A great personality (too great if you are allergic like I am).  Our calico is a scaredy who hides from all strangers.

    Now what????

Haven't gotten to the vet yet... fair still going on... but it is in the works.  However, someone approached us about wanting to purchase her today.  We are ethical people... We plan on having the vet check her out prior (needless to say)... do we just lay it all out on the line?

For the ladies of the board...

Our county fair has been the past week plus and my daughter's FFA chapter was "Strong enough to show in pink"  Kids and parents wore pink all the time and had placards to fit in number holders saying showing in support of "  " or in memory of "  ".  It was a sea of pink and they collected...

    Now what????

DL... Just the person I was hoping to respond.  Yes other cattle with the bull are confirmed pregnant.  I was planning on running her in to the vet next week.  He has a bit of an attitude about these show heifers... (doesn't think there is money in them because for most people they are just a...
