    Foundation Simmental

Yes, you must be 50% to show as percentage (foundation), and up to 75%. Over 75%, you show as a purebred in most shows, including the Classics. I am not sure about the AOB classes.

    Calling all Simmental Folks

Are you looking for Purebred? Upgrade is doing a fantastic job, but make sure your cows have good structure. He can throw those rear wheels a little straight. But he will add rib and lots of growth. Grandmaster will give rib and style, but lacks a little in the growth once they hit yearling...

    New show-ring Simmentals

We bred our 10 year old Westfall Crossfire cow to Wide Track, as per Adam Owen's recommendation. I am pretty excited for that calf (due in the fall). I can say that both Adam and our Genex rep said to make sure you use him on a deep ribbed cow. I have seen him at stud several times, and he is big.

    can't register calves

According to her papers, Thomas owned her from birth, since they are the only names on her papers (https://herdbook.org/simmapp/action/animalSearch.AnimalSearchAction?eventSubmit_displayAnimal=T&animalNumber=2414144). Now, they may have bought the pair, since the dam of the donor is unregistered...

    New show-ring Simmentals

Here is a bull I am watching. I actually bred a few to him recently, I like that he has a little different twist to his pedigree. http://www.selectsiresbeef.com/index.php/bull-database-view-page/page?bid=325 HPF Optimizer. White face. He has a decent set of EPD's. I agree with Wide Range...

    can't register calves

This is exactly what the ASA requires. ALL dams must be DNA verified before even flushing. Unfortunately, not everyone follows the rules and you end up with the mess these unfortunate people are in. I would be angry if I was in that position, and all that really needs to be done is the donor...

    can't register calves

We had this happen once, bought some embryos and put one in. We tried to register the resulting calf, but the dam had not been DNAd. They finally pulled hair on the dam and our calf got registered, but I was calling the dam owner often to get it done. It sounds like, in your case, they did DNA...

    Ai conception rates!

We are now up to over 25 cows, and have never used a bull (unless we wanted to sample an embryo bull we raised on a few cows). Some cows might take two tries, but all that we have AI'd stuck. We are on an excellent mineral (Conceptaide) and heat check twice a day minimum.

    Broker Docility

Just fact finding here. What is the experience of others out there with HOC Broker calves? We have had two on the ground, flush mates. One was the sweetest bull calf (born last spring and sold as a 7 month old), would walk up to you in the pasture and was easy to wean and halter break. The...

    Calves got Switched Problem

I had heard that is what happened with the bull, Heads Up, sire to LLSF Uprising. Heads Up should be registered as a 3/4 blood, but did not DNA back to his dam. In other words, he would not DNA to the dam that raised him, but did DNA to the AI sire Upgrade used on the dam. When you have...

    Another shocking event...

The only time we thaw in the cow is when using Genex semen. We have sense built a barn, and have a great set up for AIing, properly grounded outlets, however we STILL unplug the thermos before putting a straw in. Being burned once, I do not care to repeat that experience! We usually only AI one...

    vitaferm

We switched to Vitaferm Conceptaid a little more than a year ago. We have noticed a huge difference in our conceptions, but we do not use a bull. We AI or put embryos in. If a cow does not take by the third cycle, we find a bull and get her bred and sell her. There are a lot of factors that go...

    Dry Shipper

We had some embryos shipped from preferred genetics, we bought them from the online sale J &C Simmentals had. I was charged $170 to ship them to me, that is the most I ever paid! They do not accept credit cards, so I had to wait for them to receive my check before I could have the embryos...

    Question for those that AI

Man, this thread is OLD! We have changed a bunch since this incidence... We do what you just said if we are AIing more than one head. If not, we just unplug before we put the straw in, and leave it unplugged until the next time we breed. We have since built a barn, and have a table with...

    Pretty happy with this girl

This is a September heifer that my son owns and will be showing this year. He won a scholarship from our district fair, and went with the wise choice and bought a cow with the money, that had this heifer. So, two for one money, and part of that was his scholarship money. The interesting part is...

Captivating and Stunning Eyes on Heifer

Never seen this before in cattle until last month. I went on a tour of several farms in KY, and Rocking P, the Phillips, has a cow with what they called "cat eyes". Then, our last farm we visited that week was Misty Meadows, and low and behold he had a cow with the same white eyes. They look...

    New cow

A new bull that is on my radar is Optimizer, carried by Select Sire. http://selectsiresbeef.com/index.php/bull-database-view-page/page?bid=325 His EPD profile is decent. He does have dream on in his pedigree, but it is back a few generations. And, he is a 3/4 blood, which I like.
