    Calf not nursing back quarters

A big thing this time of year is to make sure those quarters stay clean and milk them just enough to make sure they are opened up and no plug in them.  That way if the calf does try them they will find they work fine.  But if the quarters are full of mud they will probably shy away. Creep Feed

We use soybean hull pellets a lot in our show ration as the heifers mature! We love them! Also use them starting weaned calves on feed.  I had thought about using them as a creep feed with maybe a portion pellet mixed in.  Did you feed yours straight Dale! did you have any problems with pellet...

    TAI Protocols

We too have had good luck with the 5 day protocol. Lately it seems we have been going with 7 day just because we get in the rhythm of pulling CIDRS every Monday night and putting new in whatever is ready the same night.  Just works out good with the kids schedules to help.  Breeding on...

    TAI Protocols

I would go with the 7 day CIDR protocol.  It's more of a sure shot where your cows are in different stages. We usually don't start even trying to synch cows until 50 days post.  And figure a little longer for first calf heifers. Just confirm your schedule with your AI tech before you start...

    Show feed question

If the calves are only 6-8 weeks old and the cows are milking good they are probably just not feeling the need for creep feed.  Especially if they are out on fresh grass.  They'll start when they fell the need. Ron <cowboy>

    Ringworm around eye

We've had good luck with daily liberal applications of generic athletes foot spray.  Scrape the area first if its really crusty. Ron  <cowboy>

    Titanium 5 vaccine

We have switched to using the Enforce 3 a few days after birth and then again pre weaning followed up by a MLV AFTER they have been weaned a couple weeks. We also give a 7-way Blackleg in spring and again with the Enforce pre weaning  We have had to treat a lot less this way and it seems to...

    barn cams

B & H Camera can be pretty helpful if you give them a call and explain what you are trying to do. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ I would suggedst getting a system that is internet capable.  After you have it and can check progress from anywhere you will love it! Ron

    Showmanship Profile Stance

Get him used to walking into that offset stance when appropriate.  Other wise just pick up a front foot.  They have to put weight on at least three so when that front foot is up he will settle in on that rear foot for you. Good luck! Ron  <cowboy>

Wait, are you feeding her to be a Dairy Breeding heifer or market type heifer.  There's a huge difference!

How to breed to get big soggy cows!!

EXACTLY!!! I resisted posting on this but ... Clubby bulls are bread and designed to make a market animal.  The end Product.  The TERMINAL end product. If you want big high performing females that are big deep middled and milk and will raise a calf and not shiver away next to the round bale...
