    EUC Tabasco

The Salute cow is on the plus side of 5 and the Metro would be a 4-4.5.  Considering the calves' birth weights and where they are now, I don't think he will add much frame to either.  They look like they are going to follow their dam's frame scores if not slightly smaller.  My calves and the...

    EUC Tabasco

After seeing a few really nice calves in the NW Ohio area last spring, I tried him on a purebred shorthorn Salute cow and a shorthorn plus Metro heifer.  Both calves were born unassisted with the Salute checking in at 75 lbs. and the Metro at 65 lbs.  They are both heifers and my kids showed...

    RED

We planted a Red Maple tree close to our barn in Cathy's memory.  My kids call it the "Cathy" tree.  We also have two of Red's cows in my little herd.  Her one old cow has a red calf every year.  I think I could breed it to anything and it would still have a Red calf!

    Rowe feeds

I agree with the previous posts.  We switched to Rowe when the local feed company quit custom grinding.  We have used Rowe feeds and products for three years with great success and at a reasonable cost.  We do have to travel more  to pick up the feed but Gene Rowe gets it to a local central...

    RED

We had our first calf of the season.  It was out of Red's Dilly cow that I bought from Mark last summer.  It was a red heifer out of Hard Core.  Stopped me in my tracks when I saw it was red. Scholarship is a great idea.

    RED

Yesterday, I saw our dear friend Cathy.  I gave her a hug, chatted about  cattle and showed her pictures of her two week old  "grand calf" out of a Cherry Bomb heifer I bought from her.  I was so happy to see her out and about doing something she loved.  I said "I will see you tommorrow before I...

    adding weight to steer

Started using Rowe's Enhance with our calves this past fall.  Gains have been from 3.75 to 4.5 lbs. per day.  Gains are great but the best part has been the calves have also stayed on feed.  No instances of being knocked off feed and losing valuable time/gain while you work them back onto feed.

    Meyer 734 heifer

I used Ali on a Meyer 734 x Angus (TC Stockman) heifer.  Ali was as advertised on calving ease for her and we are very happy with the heifer calf.  Very correct and extended her front end.

How long for Pinkeye to clear?

We recently received a heifer from out west that had pinkeye.  We have been fortunate to avoid that in the past.  She is isolated and we vaccinated all calves at our place.  Treated her immediately with LA 200 as well as a follow up dose.  First dose was 15 days ago and second was 12 days ago. ...

    poisonous to cattle

Arborvitae clippings were responsible for the death of several head in my area two years ago. Tragic situation involving some 4-H projects and a neighbor who did not realize what he was doing.

    Cattle calm paste

We have used it a few times on heifers when we were trying to show them while in heat.  It seemed to help but I think my nephew is "addicted" to believing the stuff works.  This past weekend, one heifer danced just one time on him while we were in the make-up arena and my nephew demanded to know...
