Well, this is the first time I've help a clipper since lest July, so I decided I better practice a little. This steer has a few problems, so I figured that he'd be just perfect to do all my " woops' " on. Sorry that he ain't standing up. I'll try to get a little better pics of him later on this afternoon. Tell me wha you think.

Also, how do you all clip the neck and brisket? I peeled the brisket, but should I have peeled the neck too? How do you do it? Thanks.

can't really tell much of anything from the pictures but i'd venture to guess you need to work on leveling his top a lot more. don't "peel" the neck. get a ht 5/8 blade and do it that way or else back drag a medium or x-blend down the neck

agreed w/ showman, ne.  better picture please MYT :) but from the top pic, looks good for the most part, (it may just be my computer screen), but it looks like it may need to be blended just a bit more? Brisket/ Front end, im actually going to a friends house for a refresher tomorrow  (clapping) lol (not my favorite to clip...)

Yep, I'll have him looking a little better tomorrow. Those were kinda last second pics before I turned him back out. RW, I wish I could learn how to do that. I had it done to one of steers last year, and that turned out GREAT. Every thing was smooth and blended nicely. Oh well. I'll learn how to get it right eventually.  ;D

You oops look better than mine. Did, one week before a show my sister and I tried to clip our show heifer. Big nick in the shoulder on a RED heifer. Stuck out like a sore thumb.

Practice makes perfect. One piece of advice, you can ALWAYS take more off, you can't put it back! ;D

Boy, I had a red steer one year that I tried to clip the shoulder on.  ::) Well, then I tried to paint it the same color as the steer, and you know how hard it is to match paint to a red steer. As for your advice, unfortunately, I've proven that statement true several time today.  ;)

i normally don't peel the neck at all unless it is like summer and/or i don't have enough hair.

what do you mean by peeling?
peeling is just clipping it as tight as possible basically.

i like to make the neck still look fuzzy like the body but you still need to shape the neck correctly. you should basically try to start the top of the neck  directly above the middle of the front legs. from there make an imaginary line to the point of shoulder and work from the withers down blending the imaginary line into the shoulder and clip a smooth neck all the way to the head.

Wow, thanks, that's very helpful.
