I snapped a few pictures of a few calves yesterday and thought I would share them with you. The first two, are of 10W a Feb 09 born Saskvalley Pioneer 126P out of a Wolf Willow Major Leroy first calf heifer. He had a 78 lb BW and as you can see he lost the ends of his ears as it was a nasty day when he was born ( below -40 with windchill). This guy is getting thicker by the day, and they pictures do not show his thickness and butt  very good.

15W is another Pioneer calf from a first calf heifer who is sired by Ar Su Lu Special Edition x. Another poor picture but it gives an idea of what he looks like.

The last picture is of an ET Durham Red bull calf sired by Red Fine Line Mulberry. He is out of one of our donors, HC Melba Niam 67J x*.

I will post a few more later.

JIT, The 1st calf is pretty nice & showy looking. The 2nd calf looks like he really has some top to him. (clapping)

I do wish the first calf had not froze his ears. Doesn't take anything away from his breeding ability, but it does affect his overall appearance. He is going to be thick butted. His dam is a two year old now that I pictured on here last fall. I have pictured her again as well.
The dam of the Pioneer Special Edition bull calf is Shadybrook Julie 14T x*.  Her dam was a good Rocker Julie female. Neither of these calves have had creep feed yet. Her picture is here as well.

The two white heifers are ET full sisters sired by K-Kim Gold Count 22P and out of Shady Lane's excellent Trump daughter , MV Trump's Misty 0128 X. These heifers are so identical that I have to look at their ear tags to figure out which one I am looking at. A considering one of them for the North American Heifer Futurity sale, but will have to decide if I want to sell one or not.

A few more....... the first is a picture of two Timeline ET calves, a bull and a heifer. They are always together, and I think if they could they would hold hands and walk around together. It is seldom that I ever see them more than 50 feet apart for more than a few minutes. They are full sibs and they certainly have a special bond.

The second picture is of another recip. I decided to show this picture to show what a Shorthorn bull on an Angus cow will produce. This half blood cow is an awesome individual and has produced some excellent calves of her own. Personally, I think she is a commercial producers dream. .. good uddered, fertile, easy fleshing, milks well, calves easily.... and she is still black ( for those that think black is where it is at). I wonder why more commercial producers don't take advantage of the free 15% advantage hybrid vigour provides. A red Shorthorn bull on a set of black cows will produce a set of black calves. Only you and your banker would ever know!

Yeah, I like the Gold Count heifers, two of the better one's that I've seen.  We bought one of the first breeding shares on him, and we just never had anything outstanding from him. We still have a few straws.  What lines do you think he would work best on?

K- Kim Gold Count 22P has been used very successfully here in Canada. I have never heard one complaint about his calves, in fact, some breeders are calling him the most consistent sires they have ever used. There are some really good Gold Count cattle here in Canada, and most people are simply raving about his daughters in production. They are super uddered and milking very well. Gold Count is also homozygous polled, and is calving very well. Quite frankly, he has been used on a variety of different bloodlines and he seems to be working pretty good on them all. My Gold Count calves have been very easy to sell.

Looks like he'll be getting another chance here haha.  If we have a good cow that we can't figure on what to breed her to, we'll probably toss a straw of him in her.

Speaking of K-Kim is there any truth to the rumor he is having a dispersion sale this fall and getting into the simmatals?
