My <alien> spidy senses tell me a last minute Big 12 deal could be made to keep the conference alive (at least another couple years).  Not saying that A&M won't be leaving.  But this whole process has opened the door for OU to have more power in the decision process.  ESPN had an article stating that the law suits are pending OU's decision to stay in the Big 12.  This is the leverage OU wanted on Texas (and ESPN).

Texas wants the Big 12 to stay.  Oklahoma State, Missouri and Tech are happy in the Big 12.  Kansas, K-state, Baylor and Iowa State need the Big 12 to survive.  And OU now has a bigger bargaining chip.  They are eyeing the west coast and the potential prospects, but its a win either way for them (And, I'm not sure how everyone thinks OU can leave if A&M can't).  Also, BYU is pleading for an in invitation to legitimize themselves and would likely stabilize the conference for a bit.

In addition, on a political note, Oklahoma's decision will be influenced by how it's decision will affect the state.  Currently, Oklahoma City houses several Big 12 events in its down town area.  Those will likely go bye-bye with significant loss of revenue to the state.

Which means....  that they will announce tomorrow the Big 12 is dissolved and the super conferences are on their way.    (pop)

Good take on it, eerily quiet today.  Being in KS, the big 12 survival is our best solution, probably not a long term solution, but the big east travel schedule is not my preference.  If we can get BYU to be the 10th member, we will be alright in the short term.

Would be nice to lose Beebe to, but probably replaced with another UT figurehead.

Jason...are you a fan of KSU or KU? I posted a link that has some pretty good info on it. I have heard from more than one outlet/source that KU and KSU are an option for the Pac 12 once they go to 14 with the addition of OSU and uo. Most do not think Texas will go West, they are "above" doing that, Larry Scott will only wait so long for them to decide once the dominos tumble. If/when this all goes down, it's possible both of the Kansas schools will go West with the Oklahoma schools.

Wildcats, would prefer both Kansas schools stay together.  I would prefer PAC over Big East.  It probably going get wild next week.  It looks like OU's decision will probably hinge on what  happens to everyone., hopefully they stay and we add BYU.

I thought a better update the topic I started.  Here is a brief synospis of what is going on for people not wasting their time on a daily basis like me reading all the mindless chatter on msg boards and twitter.

The whole mess is still pretty unclear except for Pitt and Syracuse headed to the ACC.  I know we have some WV fans on this board, would like to hear their thoughts.

Aggies still in big 12 being waiting on SEC to accept without conditions or Baylor drops suit based on big 12-3 staying together.
OU, UT has gained permission by the regents to explore options
PAC would take OU, UT, but might buff at excepting OSU and TT and OU has made it is clear that they are not breaking up with OSU
PAC would make UT alter LHN, which might be a sticking point for UT
If the 4 mentioned above move the PAC, might be a conference of leftovers from big east and big 12-3.  :-\
Or Big 12-3, stays together and poaches from the big east.

From my perspective, UT would like to keep the big 12 - 3 together.  However to make it work, they need OU.  OU wants more equal revenue sharing.  Still a lot up in the air, it could go a thousand different ways.

The Latest : PAC 12 won't expand, OK considering Big 12 options  and will remain in Big 12 only if it removes Comm Dan Beebe and creates more concrete rules for Longhorn Network, MO informally agrees to join SEC though SEC denies it has made a formal offer ????????

Looks like the Bevo 12, 10, 9 lives to fight another day, unfortunately Beebe doesn't.

Looks like he taking it well, at least whoever runs the fake twitter has been comedy gold
http://twitter.com/#!/DanBeebe

So what are we thinking, BYU?  Maybe try to grab louisville or wvu from big east?  I hate to raid other conferences as I know how i felt when the KS teams were going to be left with very little options.

I assume you mean "unfortunately" as in "unfortunately for him"?

He bungled the Nebraska situation, his television negotiations have been far below average at best, and he's a puppet for Dodds.  If he'd have taken the leadership on establishing a network for the entire conference all of the schools would have been better off and the conference would be in a strong position with twelve teams right now.

I'm glad that OU is being agressively agressive on the matter! Long live the big 12!

I meant "unfortunately for him", but honestly the guy is probably happy to get out, especially if the conference is still together (albeit not by his doing) when he leaves.

I still don't have a ton of confidence that this league will exist past 5 years.  It wouldn't have made it past a couple days ago if the PAC decided it didn't want to deal with Texas's crap.

Yeah, I probably should have assumed that.  I didn't know if there's a chance he's looked at kindly somewhere else, regardless of how little possiblity there is for that.

I have no doubt that the phrase "I saved the Big XII twice and it was still together when I left.  I think you can see how monumental a task that was by the way it's falling apart now." will come out of his mouth within a few years.

cough cough I cant believe that I am going to say this, but "thank you OU"  ouch my fingers burn now.  Texas now knows they arn't AS big a deal as they thought they were.  OU kinda knocked them down a little bit.  As for the future of the big 12 EXPAND EXPAND EXPAND!!!  Go HARD after byu, WV, Louisville, TCU, etc...  Get to at least 12 teams again to get the championship game back.  Oh and no one can say that we arnt at least the 2nd best league this year.  half the teams are in the top 25 with what 3 in the top ten?

EMAW!!!

I would think OU and Texas prefer a 10 team league, how many times have their national championships hopes been gone after a loss at the big 12 championship.  I do think we need to bring a 10th team for next year and long term stability calls for getting back to 12.

I am with you, I am just glad the big 12 stuck around.  I know we are sucking at the teet of UT, but it sure beats the MWC or big east.

I think the NCAA has to step in and stop the money grabbing nonsense disguised as conference realignment.  With today's scheduling, how can a conference name a champion when they don't play all of the other teams in their conference?  Several years ago I noticed that Memphis State played more SEC teams than Alabama did.  Good luck selecting a true winner with a 16 team league.  I guess there's the joke of the conference champion game.  The players supposedly aren't allowed to earn a stipend, yet the schools are free to grab any dollar they can any way they can.  If there is to be any semblance of a level playing field on the field, there needs to be some degree of equality when it comes to revenue sharing.  I don't mean hats and pennants or concessions.  I'm talking about the television revenue stream.  If this is allowed to continue, the super conference will be made up of about 20 teams, the perrenial contenders that just happen to control most of the money.  The rest of the teams will be forced to fend for themselves.  Maybe the top 1 to 4 teams out of 4 or 5 conferences would just like us to send them all the money.  I'm afraid that is what it is coming to.
