Agh! Hair gone!

I went out tonight to feed. I my show heifer was running around the pen aggitated. I had thought yesterday she was coming in heat. When I looked closer, she was missing a big patch of hair on her lower rear are just where it goes into her legs. My brain is working to get the correct term. It was scaly & red. We just had gotten some ice powder today, so I dusted her off. It was not like that this morning. She kept wanting to lick the area too.
Any suggestions? I've never had hair go that fast!

What type of cream or ointment does anyone use to help heal a raw area? I've used bacon grease or bag balm before. With this cold weather need something that will go on smoothly.
