Anyone else use Alpha 7 and have problems with it really knotting up after the shot. Some go away after 2 weeks and some stay for months, one is still there after a year. I always use clean needle and syringe. Thanks

Alpha 7, like all the clostridial vaccines, is very irritating (as you can attest) and will most likely leave a lump - and the lumps can last for months - if you are giving it under the skin you aren't doing anything wrong - it is the nature of the vaccine. Lumps may be less evident and less paingul to the calves if given in the "armpit" on the non show side...

As DL just mentioned, this "Alpha 7" is a new born ARM PIT vaccine, If you are very diligent and make sure you are all the way thru the skin and fully sub-q - it will be very effective and I have had very small irritations. I have - however -- gotten in a hurry and simply "Thought" I was under the skin, and when I pushed the plunger it went in harder than normal -- this is when you will have a huge reaction.

Self imposed operator ERROR is my crime, and the punishment is sometimes a long and ugly swelling. I go about this with painstaking care now -- and get along very well. I use an 18 ga 3/4 inch needle -- and never re-use it. This stuff will make a syringe almost impossble to push even after a single use -- it just eats the rubber lubricants right off the end of the plunger -- so you know it will do some damage in the calf if not put there correctly. Extra care and a slow accurate injection is key -- and it pays big dividends too-- this is the very best for early prevention -- I use no other. I also booster at 30 days with Vision 7 or 8 -- on the other side also in the pit!
