I just got done looking at Aldens sale catalog & it looks like they are joining the retaining a flush in every female & cloning rights club! I still don't mind someone keeping rights to a flush on a hfr, but I just can't get past keeping the cloning rights to every animal. There's some good looking hfrs in there , but they've lost me as a potential customer on the live animals. I've got a feeling they won't lose any sleep over that though. ;D
Doc, I can see your concern but I don't believe if this oufit had a heifer I was very interested in that it would hold me back from purchasing. Most sales that have a flush retained on a female, state at the buyers conveinence. What if everytime they called to see if they could flush her, you told them "at this time it's not conveinent". What are they going to do, grab a lawyer and force you to and take the chance at loosing a customer and getting a black eye. I am not afraid to give up a flush if I can make it a win/win for both of us. Maybe I can share in the flush and they can help market.
As far as Cloning, if they choose to explore this option, it shouldn't set the female back in production at all. What do they do just grab a notch out of the ear? Sure someone will have another identical to yours. If they chose yours and are going to spend the high $$$ it takes to clone, I look at it as one hell of a complinent. You chose the right critter! Someone comes to buy a calf of her's at your place, and you can state that the outfit you purchased the dam from is cloning her, it sure makes your cow have some promotional value.
