jason, is there  a way to hook up all the halter breaking threads and put it in the hall of fame?

as for calves that won't lead, DO LESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, expect LESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.  reward MORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for even the SMALLEST try.  don't over reward.

Listen to Knabe.  I  changed my calf breaking methodologies to this and it is amazing how much faster I get them broke!

I had a VERY stubborn Angus heifer a couple years ago that i was halter breaking. She was a piece of work to say the least, would constantly fight and pull even just to be tied, probably one of the worst I have ever had. After bing tied a dozen times she would still fight and pull back on the halter.

I fabricated a unit very similar to the Big Jim quite easily out of some round rod, a piece of chain and a snap, was very easy to make and very low cost.

I use by 9 yr old nephew - he is low to the ground and he just keeps turning them. We dont break to tie until they stop fitting my nephew.  ::)

This of course works with adult supervision and usually in the range of 4-550 lb calves.  ::)

that's why it's effective.  people should kneel down more.  it makes the calves instantly inquisitive.  just look at temple grandin laying down in the feedlot.  by the way, the low to the ground thing works with horses too.

We always let our cattle drag a halter for 48 hours before we try to tie them up or anything. This is after they are okay with us sharing a pen with them and rubbing on them with rubber brushes attached to showsticks.
Take your time and start plenty early should help out too.
