I was told my show steer needs to be “wider in his pin set” and needs “an extra shot of foot size to be extra competitive “. Another comment was that he looks fat necked. Are there any things I can do to make any of these places better on this steer? He is currently about 920 and fair is at the end of July. Hoping to get him to 1100. He currently is eating about 20-25 pounds of Purina fitters edge a day.

Well, this is a tough one.

First off, I don't see him as "fat necked".  He is good chested and obviously not pencil necked.  However, I don't see his neck as unattractive at all.  It is the kind of neck that looks pretty good when they weigh 1250+ pounds.

I don't see him as exceptionally narrow pinned either but admittedly am basing that on one picture.

There is no appropriate way to make one wider pinned.  That is bone structure.

Get him fat and keep him absolutely as hairy as you can.

Nice calf and nice job.

I think you have a calf that looks good first and foremost.  How is his conditioning?  End of July is a good ways away.  I would give him stabilized rice bran or some other source of energy in addition to the Fitters Edge to get some additional growth. Fitters Edge is excellent for getting one bloomed out about 100 days or better out from the show.  Not much you can do about foot size.  However, you will be surprised what 75 to 100 days can do when finishing out a steer.  The key is to have him looking his best come show day.  Good Luck!
