Is there potential for an artificial cow? Could some entrepreneur figure one out? It would have a articial uterus in which a frozen embryo could be implanted. The uterous machine would carry calf to term somehow. Then when it came time for birth...a large door would be swung open and the calf would be sloshed out. There would be no concern about a 120 # bwt calf or say a pha problem. The calf would suckle 1 artificial teat. First feeding a substitute colostrum mix given. Later meletonin or optoflex could be dripped into the milk supply. The articial shed on the side of the cow would be climate controlled with a video camera installed(each calf would eventually have its own blog-video hookup). There would be.....eventually.......a recycling of the calfs bodily functions with ptential for methane reclaimation. The O2 and Co2 levels would....at a later date be finely tuned and adjusted for maximum expression of traits(like the marjuana growers do). The units would be powered by solar collectors and wind powered mini towers(with an emergency generator) like the cattle fitters use. There would be an economy unit 900# and the deluxe 1800# artificial cow unit. The delux unit would self propelled whereas the economy model would be towed......by pkup or 4 wheeler. The calf would have their video streamed and have their own bog-twitter deal. On nice days they could be let out on and electronic collar deal, portable pen, leash depending on your enviroment. The unit would be wolf proof obviously.

the reason with that would be that the calves wouldn't have the caring effect on the calf. you would have to wash and clean every calf after it is born.

One might........add a unit.......to practice AIing cows. You could practice manipulating the cervix while a screen mounted on the artifical could guide you through the procedure.

Actually I did see in a beef magazine(I think that's where) where a university had developed an artificial back half of a cow for learning the feel of internal anatomy and practice preg checking. The instructor could control how everything felt by air pressure. I'll get a link to it.
