I like many of the bulls being bred in Australia and I think they are developing Shorthorn bulls that will work in many different environments. Cattle shows are a big deal in Australia but where they do it right,IMO, is that they show breeding stock. Another thing I like is how the Aussie's have done away with the * ( or appendix) and closed herdbooks and they accept the animals in the same herd book. Just think how much better it would be if everyone could go to a show or sale and just purchase the animals they thought would do their herd the most good. I was talking with a promenient Aussie breeder a few days ago, and he said that he felt that we ( in Canada and the US) were hampering new breeders getting into starting new herds because of the complications of our registries and the fads and fancies of individual breeders ( his words ... not mine). This conversation gave me lots to think about and I came away thinking that he made some very valid points.
There are many outstanding bulls being offered in sales throughout Australia in the next few months. They will be evaluated on their own merit, their performance and ultrasound data, and that is the way it should be done. The bulls in this sale are an impressive lot!
