Has anyone competed in showmanship at Beef Congress?  Just kind of curious what to expect.  My daughter is 10 and we are considering signing her up for it.  Any ideas, suggestions, input???  THANKS!!

Are you talking about Hoosier Beef Congress? If so go for it the more experience the better. They will show by age of the child and breed. We just blow them out and go with a little pink oil or sheen . Pretty laid back they take the top one or two from each class to move on. I tell my kids any time they have the chance to show they need to do it. If this is your first year there you need to get in the rookie program that will get you in the main barn

That's kind of what I was thinking.  I just didn't know how "involved" it was since it's Beef Congress (indy).  Didn't know if they asked the kids a lot of questions.  She won the beginners this year at our county, so I'd like to keep her going.  Pretty much since with the $$ we spend and the county we show in, showmanship will probably be the only thing she can win!!! ;D

They only show by age.  All breeds show together.  State Fair breaks them down by both breed and age.  Depending on where your stalls are make sure you allow enough time to get to the pen and if you can put someone at the arena.  Kids missed the classes last year because they didn't call them properly in the barns.  It can be a maze and not sure where they are showing this year.  They usually don't ask a question in the pre-lims but usually wait until the finals to ask questions.  The judge will pull 2-3 contestants to go on to the finals.  Check the schedule to see if the finals are right after the first go-arounds or later.  In that division our child has been asked, age, weight, birthdate, bull info, how many ribs does a calf have, what he liked or disliked about the calf, what he would change, how much does a gallon of water weigh, feed rations, water drank per day.  Good Luck.  It's a fun show!
