Any differences in full sibs or flush mates by Heatwave versus a clone is due to the inevitable inconsistency of a four or five way cross bull not the tiny difference in mitochondrial DNA.  One clone siring more winners than another is due to chance. So to sum it up, my opinion is that there is no significant genetic difference between clones.

I second that. When full sibs/flush mates can differ so much at times I can't think that there is a difference between the clones.

This thought keeps running through my mind about the clones. I have seen most of them at Hawkeye at one time or another. I also understand thet they are all the same genetically, but can someone tell me why some appear to be so much sounder than others? Some are just flat cripples, while some don't appear to be.

It's not directly genetic, it's soft tissue breakdown.  Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't

I have never used a clone, but if all things are the same, I would want the clone that has the best semen quality. I personally like # 11,#7,#14, & #13 the best as far as structure themselves is concerned and there are some issues with a couple of those IMO.

no one will ever know because even if there were considerable differences between clones, they all get marketed as Heatwaves anyways. Very few are called out as which specific clone they are out of.

I agree with fan and drl on this one. Ultimately, they are the same dang thing, ur just paying way too much for the original HW instead of a 30 dollar clone.

Then why would people pay for the original, when you can get the clone @ a fraction?  Also, why would they clone monopoly? .... must be making $$ on volume is the only thing I can think of...

They cloned monopoly. I think there was two born in Jan of 2010. There isn't any different between the clones. They are all the same.

Yep. There were two monopoly clones born this spring. A while back ago, there was a picture of them on Matt Lautners blog. The photos were from a blackberry... so not the highest quality.

i thank the best clone in the end. of anything. is obviously going to be the one that somebody wins with and everybody uses. because they are the same if cloning is made out to be what it is. and if theyre the same. no one is better than the next. its just which gets publicised and promoted most jmo

I'd say they cloned Monopoly because of this injury.  If you think about the timeline it takes to make a clone and get him to producing age, you have to pull the trigger early in order to not miss the marketing window of the genetics.  The club calf industry has a short memory for bulls.

The club calf industry has a short memory because the list of composite bulls that can consistently produce quality calves from quality semen while staying sound to a ripe old age is pretty small.  HW was never consistent but he threw enough winners to make the cripples worth the risk.  LF
