black uno mas

Will someone explain to me how this could be. I bred uno mas to a 1/2 red angus 1/2 herford the cow is red white face. The calf is all black. I see on the female side of unomas it is heat wave is that possible to get the black from there?

Uno Mas is black skinned with smoke color hair, black is dominant over red, so you got the dominance of the black, but did not catch the smoke color gene. I have had it happen to me several times. The smoke gene is a little unpredictable you just never know what color you will get unless you use a purebred or pink skinned char, then you should get some variation of smoke or peach color. How did the Uno Mas look? I had 3 this year and got lucky all three were smoke and look pretty good.
