I was washing and blowing calves yesterday had the testy American tied in the big steel antique 'bull' chute.  All the calves did great but as expected the American didn't like the blowing on the legs.  I'll bet he kicked out more than 50 times.  I kept on and on till he finally sorta gave up but still could tell he did not like it.  He bruised his legs I'm sure (hopefully sore this morning).  Anyway my question is when it comes to show time how in the heck are we going to be able to slick shear his legs?  I'm guessing gonna have to tie em off or hobble them or something...
just wondered if you had any other suggestions.  Hoping I break him of this but at this stage I don't think I'd ever trust him to not kick if he takes the notion.  Thanks

Just a couple thought s hang in there an keep blowing ,maybe give half  cc of ace a couple days orally to help him deal with this ..The ace takes
15-30 minutes to work orally ...Lots of patience with these kind , also sometimes the ones that kick while your trying to clip put a a blind up accross his eyes ,just run it under both sides of halter , an maybe even try it now before he has a habit ...just some thought's  Jamie

Slick their legs and bellies on a hoof trimming table.  We've had to do that several times over the years to ones that posed a risk to life and limb.

Sullivans sells a divise that is a giant clamp that you put right in front of the back hips....It prevents them from using the muscles needed to kick.  We have used one and it works like a dream

You can save money by just tying a Flank Rope on him in the chute.  Pull it tight enough to almost pull his back legs off the floor.

Our breeder we got him from said he was a Nov calf.  He's weighing I'd say around 750-800 lbs.  What size rope or type just a lariat type or any type?  Isn't that what they put on bulls to make em buck?  I should know this... duh!!

I always used a neck tie or rope halter because they were always close.
