What would you breed to a 1/2 Charolais 1/2 Shorthorn Heifer to ? Landslide x Sonny/Double Down - clean both ways. She's plenty thick enough, maybe could be extended through the neck a little, plenty sound, and a little on the moderate side but not what I would call small framed. So many different ways to go - I can't decide which way ?

What color is she ? Is she a first calf heifer? If she is a first calver, why not JPJ? You are correct, being bred the way she is gives you plenty of options, especially for second calf and beyond.

If you want a colored calf I would give Cottonmouth a try.  That's what I'm going to use on some of odder colored cattle this cattle.  I've never seen calves out of him, but I saw the bull last fall and he was good as I've ever seen of any color.

She's mostly white with a butterscotch roan neck - pretty cool colored. My first thought was JPJ but she really don't need any extra thickness - just extended a little and a touch of frame. She is a virgin heifer - fall 08 - what is Cottonmouth ?

He's the Hereford-looking bull that Kris Black sold a year ago that brought a ton of money (real money).  I saw him not too long after the sale while he was getting collected.  You can find info on him on Christy Collins' website.  The only thing "heferord" looking about him is his coloring.  He's as stout as I've ever seen and completely sound.

I forgot about him Chambero. I have heard good things. On the opposite end of the spectrum, with cows that are a little longer, but good ribbed,Carpe Diem seems to work. Seen quite a few at Kroupa's that were real nice.

SD,
I was happy with Northern Improvement on our heifers. He gave them some grow. The steer from one smaller more moderate framed heifer finished at 52 and 1366. I know those stats don't mean alot to some but he really was a nice steer. Came very small but grew and had some performance. Since she is a hiefer were you thinking Dirty Harry or anything on the club lines? Gizmo would keep the size the same and give you performance if you wanted to stay shorty. You wouldn't have to worry about BWTs. Total SOlution would be another option. I saw some really nice first calves out of him. Fancy but not sure on size. I thought TMJ used Total solution.

I missed the part about her being a heifer.  Cottonmouth ain't for heifers.

Total Solution has been used a lot on heifers down here in Tx/OK and I've never heard of problems.

If you wanted clubby Charolais, Freddy said he thought Troubador would probably be ok on heifers for a Charolais.

I would never use JPJ.  I don't think that he is reliable enough.  Plus, the utters!  I just wouldn't waste my time with him.  I have like a lot of Ace of Diamonds calves.  Also consider working with Aviator or some of his sons!  Calves all look good that I've seen.

I love JPJ for what he does, but the things she needs changed are the things in my opnion he is not good at.

Sounds like a twin to one I have. Glad I have a few more months to go to decide. Whatever I use on her I will use on a PB short too. Keep the suggestions coming. The punnet square on this one is fun. Frostie

I'd love for you to explain the punnet square on her with black clubbies, shorties, charolais/smokes ? Please elaborate a little. Could I get an orange out of her someway. That's what I liked about her - many possibilities !

Well as far as getting a certain shade colour out of her, good luck. I can how ever give a few scenarios.
Homo Black bull and her 50% smoke 50% blue roan.
Hetro bull             25% smoke, 25% blue roan, 25% butterscotch (yellow, orange, you get the idea), 25% red roan
Smoke bull           25% smoke, 25% blue, 25% white, 25% butterscotch roan (cannot predict how much roan will show)
Red roan bull      25% butterscotch, 25% red roan, 25% butter roan 25% white
Any others you would like let me know. Frostie
