I know this has been discussed a lot but i would like some advice.  I have mostly angus cows the are moderate to larger framed.  All have some thickness and some top but could use some too.  They need some more bone added and fronts cleaned up.  All the cows are great middled too.  Cow are also very sound.  What bulls would work on them to get some decent steers out of them and please do not say heatwave.  Also what bulls to make some nice replacements.  I think i am going to breed most of them for replacements but was going to breed a few for steers.  I have dr who. monoply, hired man, my turn, and mamas boy in the tank.  I think im going to order SOS, nutt n' butt, Echo (for steers and heifers), and maybe Amazon or Hairy bear, but would like some more insight on these bulls.  Or what bulls do you guys think would work good.  Also have a really really freaky heat seeker cow that just needs to be soften up some and needs to be deeper bodied.  Makes her calves really big boned square and hairy but needs something to make them deeper bodied.  Was thinking something like mamas boy or something maternal like that.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Chad.

I'd use Dr. Who on the Heat seeker, or maybe Hairy Bear. Echo hasnt really put out any real real good ones lately, and I've heard I think on this sight that the nutt n' butts can be hard doers on the female side of things. Amazon would be good for some top quality replacments.

I dont know what would work for steers on straight angus cows
But as for females make sure you breed SOS to larger framed cows.  From the few i have seen i dont think he will add frame at all and could downsize a touch.  Which i didnt think he would with his breeding.
As for nuttin but business i would say he definetely works on angus cows for females.  I know where there is one i would love to own and you saw her heifer calf last year out of heat wave that is winning now.  And she has another dam good heat wave heifer this year.
But he needs to be used on deep bodies angus cows.
Echo may work on those angus cows for steers or heifers dont know if will get that great steer depending on how stout that angus cow is but echo will add muscle and will work on moderate framed good necked cows.  And there has been some good ones out of him.
Another one that could make steers or females is Jigsaw.  I have one this year and looked awesome at birth then next 30 days didnt know but now he is better than the three friction steers she had in the past.  He keeps getting thicker every day.  And looking at him i bet the heifers would make great cows.  Plus the breeding on jigsaw being half angus and then friction which goes back to full flush debull and meyer.

Thanks Dave!  The Money Talks is looking pretty good.  She needs to shed out and get cleaned up a bit and needs some hoof trimming done.  You and Brad will have to come see her sometime.  Got a couple more for ya.  Kadabra X Simmy,  small framed blended whiskey X angus, Paddy o Malley X Simmy, Meyer 1468 X (purple passion's dam), and Whiskey for my Men X Angus, Any suggestions on those?

If you go to Pohlman farms and check out the amazon calves I think you would be happy with them. I have this year out of a Who made who cow. He was small at birth and is really growing. Good hair and is coming into his top. P-F is a member and they woudl be more than happy to give you info on Amazon as they are using him at their farm.

Who is a good standby in my opinion. If you don't mind carrier genetics, Jill has posted and I have seen ton of Irish WHiskey x Angus. That seems to be his nitch. I also think Who makes great replacement females.JMO

Who made Who, the worst calves I've ever had, the last one went to the locker as a 2 year old, out of a 600u x ext cow, did not have any luck at all with him, gave the rest of the semen away. I have seen some killer who's out there, he's not consistant enough for me, they still have to feed and grow at my place. The Nutt-n-butts are real easy keepers, breed up, and produce.  Echo has not been used very heavy, but they are consistant. He will throw a steer, Harkema got along good with him. I have never had a bad Heatseeker, they feed well at my place.

I do believe that Sunseeker is going to make his mark through his daughters, in a big way, they are good cattle, in the fact that they have alot to them. He is the best looking mature bull at Hawkeye, imo.

The Dream Ons, ect. are functional cattle.  I have seen alot of Machos and I won't use him. Not enough to him. I've seen were he was used natural and they were all over the board, there again there are some barn burners out there, the ones thet I like are all half-bloods, and it seems to take a real real good cow to pull him through.again imo

I like Dr. Who's females, I am a big fan of SOS, and the Power2Change bull looked good at Nichols 2day.  I really liked the Highliner bull as well.

There are a million different ways to go, if you want to hit singles and doubles, or if you are going to swing for the fence every time chasing the $30000plus one.

Chad, you have a very good eye from what I have seen, be patient, it takes a while to get your cows figured out, when you are buying breds and opens you don't know the cow families as well and  it takes a little longer to know what should work on her and her daughters and granddaughters, ect.

Work with a breeder that breeds "your kind", tell him what you are trying to do, have goals, then listen. study the cows they trace back to.

If you are looking for females, Your are going to get there faster by using a proven bull, who's daughters have been in production for a couple of years, let every one else do the testing. I'm not saying don't try or sample a new or young one, I like to test breed. They don't all work the same in different herds, or enviornments.

wow have I been blabbing alot. I'm just sharing what I have seen and don't mean to offend or cause waves, you'll get along fine Chad, Rome wasn't built in a day!
