Breeding Suggestions for NH carriers

With fall breeding season quickly approaching I am trying to decide what semen to order.  Here is the situation...  I have several registered Angus females that are NH carriers.  All of my carrier females are Morgans Direction daughters, nice feminine, well balanced, moderate framed cows that are excellent milkers.  Their ages range from first calved heifers to seven year old cows.  I also have non-carriers that I am thinking of breeding to something different, they are daughters of PVF New Horizon, 878, 036, Bando 0699, VRD, BC Lookout (just to name a few). 

This is what I am looking for.  A sire that will produce show prospects, would like some white somewhere!!!, and somewhat calving ease.  Since I would like some baldies I have seriously been looking at some Simmi's (Grizzly, Chopper, Rendition, etc).  So, what are your suggestions?  All of the advice is greatly appreciated.  Looking at other breeds, bloodlines, and EPD's is very new to me.  Thanks for all of your help!

I would suggest Dr.Who or Climax.Both make nice steers, makes nice females. Defect free (at least of KNOWN defects) They also seems to click with your bloodlines from known experience.

A word of advice: I am assuming you are an angus based cow herd. So you have a variety of potential defects to worry about. I would stay away from any other carriers, just for the simple reason if you think 4/5 defects are hard to deal with, trying adding 2 to that number. That is unless you are very very very disciplined and sell (for feeders and slaughter only) all offspring that are carriers and don't slip up and keep that "wonderful, can't live without, much to pretty to slaughter" heifer. So for the simple fact that humans have trouble sticking to their guns when faced with a hard decision, I would say just stay away from all known carriers in the "clubbie world".

Personally my vote for you goes to the Rendition bull ( the one with the GWS prefix- not the other one!)  Good bull made to make baldies..  I can get you in contact with his producer/ owner if you like.. Buddy of mine with 400 Angus cows flushed many to him... TOP DOG at Denver last year.. BEST PB!

Rendition is definitely at the top of my list.  I saw him in person last spring, I work at a stud and we collected him for his owners, very impressive!  One of his new owners lives just down the road from me, thanks for the help! 

CJC- where can I find info on Full Moon?  Does a major semen distributor carry him? 

Anymore suggestions? 

My Turn is also another bull that I have thought about if we don't go the simmi direction.  I really like the bull and am excited to see some more calves out of him!

Of course Meyer if you have some extra cash.
Dream On if you want calving ease. I haven't seen a ton of hair on them but they are usually pretty.
We have a Warrant calf this year and it is our first experience with Warrant. Really like the soft look and sogginess of the calf. He is an easy feeder and has ton of hair.

for your registered cows that are defect free i would suggest. duff Outer Limits he did great work in our herd. deeep soggy females and bulls with some extra muscle


As for the carriers i would say try good ol who or maximus..... really hard to go wrong when you have a nice angus cow at the base. also other than the rendition idea maybe look into  encore or the bull derouchy is promoting foundation.

I saw Full Moon at Wagonhammer last spring. My opinion on him is that you wait to see some calves. I personally question his growth. Warrent is a good bull, and I have seen some great ones from him, but he is a double carrier. My Turn is also a carrier. I was told that the Foundation bull has some structure problems. My pick of the bulls mentioned would be Rendition, I have only heard good things about him.JMO

I bred our AM carrier to Smooth Sailing this year.  Figured if she is dirty,  breed her real dirty.LOL  But we have a market heifer division in Minnesota so if the calf is good enough, either steer or heifer, the plan is for it to be in the market class.  I guess if its a heifer and its cool enough we will have to re-evaluate then as far as keeping her.  Have seen a few nice Smooth Sailing X Angus cross heifers.  I kept one NH carrier heifer back out of El Capitan.  She is cool enough to warrant  breeding around the carrier stuff for a while.

Has any one heard of an El Capitan that is NOT a NH carrier?  Everyone I talk to has had all carriers out of him.

If you want to be a little cutting edge and keep a few Angus pedigreed, you might take a look at Hoover Dam. He is a young bull but his sire CC&7 has calves on the ground. I believe he will sire them a little more soggy than his pop. http://www.hooverangus.com/
