ok so this has always puzzled me.. exactly how long after a cow has her calf can she get bred again?? I know it's a silly question but still.

Really its a cow to cow basis. Some cows are really fertile and will stick first time they cycle back. I like to see a cow cycle once and then breed her on her 2nd cycle. Depending on how early that first cycle is, we usually back them up a few weeks or keep them around the same time. This is a case when we are highly satisfied when she is calving. When backing a cow up, I have gave them lut at 20 days and whenever they cycle we double straw (8 hours and 12 hours) and we have had a really good catching rate. But on cows we are pleased with when they are calving, we have a 20-25% higher conception rate waiting to that second cycle. (This is just what we have seen in our cows, a lot of herds are different thats why it is a case by case).Corriedalesrock said:ok so this has always puzzled me.. exactly how long after a cow has her calf can she get bred again??
