Kinda brings credibility to the need for National ID, doesn't it?

well, people should still be allowed to hunt bison and i guess that's what happens when cattle aren't vaccinated properly.  now i know the vaccine is not 100% effective, but you would be surprised how many tightwads don't vaccinate to cut costs.

i guess we'll see what happens.

WHATS BRUCELLOSIS ??? I KNOW IT'S A DISEASE, BUT WHAT DOES IT IMPACT IN A BOVINE (cow)

Now farmboy (aka googleboy) - I am surprised at you - you can google a bull but not a disease?  ;D

Bacterial disease of cattle causes abortion (aka Bang's disease)
Zoonotic )ie people can get it---> undulant fever)
Like bovine TB is considered a "regulatory disease" - ie the USDA gets involved if there is Brucellosis in cattle and they can change the states status from "free" if so many herds are infected - this is a huge economic, social, political, and animal and human health issuen - losing Brucellosis free status can be a major blow to the cattle industry of the state - affecting imports, interstate movement etc...

update - good news!

Worst brucellosis fears unrealized
Subsequent tests of two Bridger herds are negative
By JAN FALSTAD
Of The Gazette Staff

Brucellosis tests run on two herds of about 45 animals each in the Bridger area Friday have come back negative.

That means Montana gets to keep its brucellosis-free status for now.

here's one of the latest articles.

ok, now my soapbox:

i think one of the largest problems is that it has been dry in the west, to compound that, the bison have become overpopulated because they are not being hunted (in Montana) like they should be.  ok, what a solution, "well, we'll just load them up and take them to a new part of the park!"  ok, so here's what's interesting is that bison are hunted in Wyoming, so where are the bison prone to roam if hauled to a new area of the park?...outside the park borders to areas of Wyoming where there are buffalo hunts.  hmmm...let's see here, with my sharp pencil, how can i waste more tax dollars without even the thought of generating some revenue for the state, or better yet, for another state.  my beef is that the political characters are throwing temporary solutions to a big time problem.  this has been an issue in Montana for years and is now festering to the point that something major needs to be done about it.  also, i don't like the proposed idea of creating a buffer zone. excuse me, that's what the park is. or should we just make the whole state a park.  --this is totally tongue in cheek and i know it won't fix the problem at hand immediately, but it may help things in the long run...how about selling licenses for a bison hunt next fall and using the few pennies that are eaten up by Fish, Wildlife and Parks bureacracy to lighten the bill of what time our state goverment employees are going to have to spend on this issue over the next year.

i don't know, what a mess.

Yup, I sure understand - different species (deer), different bug (TB), same politics but to top it off we are the only state in the union (MI) that is divided into 3 zones by the USDA! And most of us still have to test to leave the state and some states - are you listening Illinois? still don't recognize the USDA designated zones! aghhh
