I can agree somewhat with Jacob B, just because I think that Heat Seeker has done just as much for the industry as Who has. That was the hardest vote for me and it went to Heatseeker

If Cunia and Who were used as heavily as Heat Wave right now do you think they would have as many winners as HW, I don't think so. Yes the Who's are good females but do we forget how many throw away cripple's he can give you.

When who was a younger bull, I recall him being pretty dominant for a good 3-4 years. I mean NOTHING around here could touch a WMW steer, and I live in Illinois, so the shows aren't cupcake deals.

With HW being used on a million cows you are bound to get some good ones.  ::)  And I agree with hanna cattle, HW has thrown probaly more crips than Who...

{Not enough interest? Or didn't like the outcome?}

both, plus a little extra ;)

Didn’t vote for Who once in the whole tourny.
And didn’t have Cunia winning the Maines.
If I had my way it would be HeatWave vs Ildeno for the championship.
Final four would have been:
Ali
Ildeno
Trump
HeatWave

I don’t know if it’s a lack of interest, the views are well over 600 on this topic but we certainly had a lack in the voting at the time I extended it but now it looks like we will break the 100 vote barrier.

Plus the extended time gives me a little extra time to get the tourney recap typed out on my trusting Word document.

As far as views vs. votes, I view the thread at least every time I see a new reply - if everyone that voted logged in once a day and did that, it could easily account for the views.  I just realized I keep looking back to see if anyone's discussing the bulls, so I guess I should do that myself.

At the very beginning, these two bulls probably wouldn't have been my first choice(s) for the finalists, either. But when I think about it, at least they are bulls that I can say that I could take you out to my pasture and show you quite a few cows that go back to them.  I'll bet that a lot of people here can say the same thing - especially of Cunia.  I'd venture to say that almost everyone into Maines or clubbies plus quite a few in the Shorthorn deal could trace some of their cows back to Cunia - that makes his place here pretty valid.

Everyone wants to compare WMW to HW, but like Justin said, Who was just as dominate in the showring in his day as Heatwave has been.  Granted his reign there didn't last as long, but he wasn't helped along by the hype of several clones while he was still really hot (hype necessary to make those clones pay for themselves maybe? ).  HW has yet to prove himself as anything more than a one dimensional show steer sire.  HW might  have sired a slightly higher percentage of great ones, but the percentage of throw-aways is higher, too (though I'll admit that is significant with WMW, too).  Not only have WMW daughters proven to be solid, valuable producers, he has the ability to bring uniformity to a calf crop out of a not so uniform set of females, and the ability to produce a really good calf out of a pretty average cow.  Can't say any of that for HW. Add in Who's much more desirable bw/calving ease and his defect free status, and his place here looks pretty solid, too.
