He is a may calf out of MM Delco (full brother to Radio Active) and a Gizmo cow that goes back to Mr Impact Shaker and Improver 57.  He had a 82# birth weight.  We just got the test results back and he is clean for both TH and PHA.  I would appreciate any opinions.  I know the pictures are not the best.  He has had no creep.

For a May calf looks like he has some grow to him. Great length of body. Would be nice to see him closer up. Great profile clean neck. Nice front end.

He looks he has some meat in him. I like the looks of him. I agree with OHB in that he looks like he has some grow to him , although with Shaker, Gizmo & 57th in his pedigree I don't understand why. Nice calf though & congrats on the test results.

Isnt that grouping a animal into a stereotype because of a particular pedigree Doc? I guess its ok to say it when its your opinion.  How can you not like Gizmo?

Will, I like your bull. He looks good for no creep feed. Good for you.

That's exactly what I'm doing. "Like begets like" . And that's exactly what it is , my opinion. But it has been proven the majority of time on that type pedigree. How can you not like Gizmo? (Although I don't think I said in my post that I didn't)  Pretty easy! I don't! To me , he is like JPJ ( although maybe not quite as bad) & makes them too small.
Will, I apologize for TG hijacking your thread & trying to do whatever it is he does , because of a statement I made about 3 bulls that are known for smaller size progeny. Will, Once again I like your bull & would be very proud of him if he was standing in my pasture.
TG, get a life & try to start an argument with someone else.

Im not arguing DOC!!!!! I simply asked a question. When I generalized the type you get from Rodeo Drive you let me have it. Your so grumpy lately. Thats twice I have read you told someone to get a life. Im just wondering how you can make generalizations about a animal but if I do, its ignorant.

I have gotten lots of calls about bulls lately.......LIFE IS GOOD Doc! Im not trying to argue just make a point.

I will say the more I look at your bull Will, and maybe its the picture, but he looks as big as my late March calves. Id say he has some grow in him.

Thank you for all of the comments.
I do not think he will be a big bull.  His mother is on the moderate side.  His great grandmother was a bigger cow so that and the Mary Kaye cow on the sires side is were the little bit of growth comes from.
I do not have any rear pictures.  We have not weaned the calves yet. I will weigh him after we wean him.  That pasture is Bermuda grass and we do not usually wean those calves till after our first killing frost.  I started creeping those calves this past weekend so they will be ready for feed when we wean them.  When I get him weaned I will try and get some additional pictures.  He comes from our best cow family.   The PH Red Rosie cow left the place when she was 17.  She left us several really good daughters and her granddaughters are by far my best cows.
Below is his dam and sires pedigree.  Let me know what you think. Honest opinion wanted.

He has some grow to him but he is not as big as most of my other calves that were born in late march.  Some of those other calves go back to super dazzler and are definately bigger framed and wiegh more.  I messed his mother up trying to get her bred AI a couple years ago.  I had her at the house and was working lots of hours and never caught her in heat and she and three others got about 60 days behind the other cows before I gave up and kicked them in with the bull.

When I look at shorthorn bulls one thing that i look at is that rear hock.  Many are to strait. he seems like he is very sound and has some set to that hock.

He has a great pedigree jmo-Impact Shaker produced some great cattle,Alicia Stovers daughter at Denver blows me away to this day,and she wasnt no pud. I had 2 daughters of another son-one of which is a doner. The Rosey along with 57th certainly helped size wise. I used the famous sib bull (Mary Kay deal)-and just had no luck at all. But when that breeding knicks-they are really good.Id sure like to see how he developes, especially from behind. O0

Thank you for posting a very deep quartered level hipped  shorthorn bul calf prospect.
Just today I talked highly about the very "cow family and or herd this calf is from".  MM is the prefix you  all better write down if you can't afford- Will's bull??  I toured Moores in Illinois this past spring and boy howdy... get out of your chair and get there. True cow base and just a few generations to back it.
Sorry if you think you "know " shorthorn but this Moore deal is established  and old... you just need the balls to go and buy like will did?

Will  ... you might just hang on to this one? He is young but has alot of the parts you can't buy in the sh bull deal today. thanks again

Looks like a really nice bull prospect. I really like the hip on him and he also seems to have a strong back and some balance. Not really familiar with the program you are striving for or what you might like to use a bull like this for, but I'm thinking he could be good for someone in the seedstock business and his females would cross really well. As far as being a show bull I think he could definitely stand some competition but may not have the front end and neck that a lot of judges are picking in the shorthorn deal right now. Definitely keep this one a bull and either keep him or sell him! Glad he is not PHA or TH, I can't remember which Radioactive had...

I have been a fan of the Impact Shaker bull for a long time.  We showed several nice heifers from Mike Stephens back several years ago.  The best thing about them is that they went on to make useful cows.  I do not think most people ever seen many of the impact shakers as he was a little before his time and Mike did not sell any semen on him.  Our son was out of the cow Mike said was one of his favorites she stayed at his place till she was in her teens.. The rosey cow was very good to us.  We bought Delco because of the Mary Kaye cow.

Thank you for the encouraging comments.  I think we will keep him as a bull and keep him around for a while.  The best thing about him is that he is out of my son's cow and we could take him to the junior national as a bred and owned bull.  I just have to convince Ryan ( 9 years old)  not to name him after his latest favorite cartoon character.  We had several chances to cut him and send him to the steer jocks this summer.  The Moore family is a very nice group to work with.  We bought Delco sight unseen based on his mother and their description.

Our shorthorn program has always been based on trying to buy and use bulls who have really good mothers.  I have always felt that if you continue to line up good females that fit your environment and program goals your herd will continue to improve. We have always sold a few show calves but the bulk of our calves end up crossing the scales. Plus we work off the farm and have several things going on on the farm.  So our cows and heifers have to calve on their own, then raise a calf with very little help from me. We have been very fortunate to stubble across several good bulls that have influenced our herd and produced calves that have been competitive on many levels.    Until this past spring we had not bought a female in over 10 years.  I have always wanted to have all of my cows have my prefix for several generations.  That way if they do not work I can only blame myself.  The calf I bought this spring was at the Oklahoma state sale.  She was a free bird and was just way too cheap. So I bought her and gave her to my daughter for her 5th birthday.  Maybe Lexi will get to name a solid prospect out of her some day.

Your response to my comments definitely ups his value in my book. Very respectable approach and program!

Good calf :) I agree with jtm about his hip and your approach to breeding. Your the sort of breeder that produces cattle that are profitble for the customr
