Just been checking out some of the on line sales, prices seem to be down on the good steers, top steers seem to be getting better money but less than the past couple of years. Heifers seems to be doing pretty good if they have the look or the genetics behind them. Wanted to know if you all are seeing the same thing at the sales you have been going to?
It is hard to really gauge an animal from a picture and a video but it looks like some good calves are not even getting looked at.
The calves in the sales seem to all be quality type calves, even with the drought and the heat this summer.

The good ones are getting bought...but I think the flood of online sales, and lots of "average" calves, is contributing to the soft prices or no sales of common sale barn calves.  High feed prices with corn and hay make it less appealing to load up on a few average calves just to see how they turn out.  Just my opinion...

well, maybe to many people are being burned? I know of a few who had isses with animals they bought from the sales. I myself probably wont ever buy from one again, bought a steer threw the online sale. talked to the sellers who swore by its soundness...when it got here I noticed one of its hind hocks was seriously swollen. The steer popped in its hock. It was kind of a last minuet deal and shame on me for not flying out to see him first, but the price was right and he had a cool look to him. kept him sound enough to pull off second in class at a prospect show but, he couldent make it any longer then that. I wouldent be upset by it, since the steer hung well enough, but te fact that they outright lied...I am a repeate buyers to thouse who do well by me, they had enough in their sale that they could have pointed me to one that would have been better. It left a rather fowl taste in my mouth for buying online.
