It is a myth, it would take too much force to knock over the cow along with the cow is really not in a deep sleep and would hear you trying to sneak up.

I guess I never tried but always assumed, they're really not that asleep and a person wouldn't be strong enough to knock over a real cow, but I haven't tested the theory, so couldn't say for sure

Every time I go Snipe Hunting I always end up coming home with an empty bag. 

Have not been able to get a snipe to this very day.  What clever creatures, they must always see me coming.  ;D

OH MY this summer my dad played the snipe hunt trick on me I FELL FOR IT we went to the feed stores around here i asked so wheres the best snipe huntin place around here they even played along man I was soo mad i fell for it

I know for a fact even if your around 300# and played the line in highschool, and after a couple drinks you try to tip a cow, she'll get mad....and tip you and come back for some more  lol  I never laughed so hard in my life as I did that night.  AHHHHHH college memories :
