what do local commercial guys do with feeders etc, that don't fit in a carload?
take them to the local livestock auction in a smaller trailer?
do they size their herd/operation to fit transportation constraints?

well we usually feed all calves (steers and heifers) out until they get to be about 750 lbs. most of them go to the sale barn. when we rent the wheat right next to the feedyard then we sell them to them. whenw e have a bunch hit 750 we have TLC COMPANY  haul them to the sale barn. when we only have a few(30) we haul them in our ground load semi trailer. if it is a even smaller load(5-10) we will haul them in a 24 foot trailer

I have a 20 ft trailer, a friend with a 28 ft trailer, and a neighbor with a 30 ft trailer. Or I can make more than one trip the the sale barn!!! I guess transportation is the last thing on my mind when I size my replacement herd!!!
Pasture size on the other hand......
