We are having a terrible time with Carpenter bees (we use to call them Bumble bees but I was corrected on that).  Anyone know how to get rid of them?  We have made some traps with sugar water but only caught 10.  It sure is a pain trying to get into the lamb barn without being bombarded.  Thanks for any help! <beer>

I have in the past had a terrible time around the pool area with Carpenter bees.  They are not quite as bad this year, but still have my share.  What I do is "declare war on them."  I arm myself with a long handled fly swatter and several cheap cans of Hornet spray and a comfortable lawn chair.  When they fly into the hole I spray them, if they land near the hole I swat them!  Only thing I can tell you if you swat them, when they land step on them.  In the past they have laid on the ground a good fifteen minutes and then caught a second wind and took off again.  Have also found if you can get them to land you can spray with the water hose and that will kill them also.  Believe it or not it doesn't take all that long and you and in control again.  Good Luck!

If you can find some Diazinon, spray all the wood with it and you will control most of the bees. Diazinon is now a restricted use pesticide but it does work great. I spray about once a week. Do not spray directly over used cattle pens or horse stalls that are in use.

Give your son a badmitton racket and let him have at it.

I found some insect spray at the hardware store and I sprayed it into the holes which are their nests.

A tennis racquet to swat them down and a boot to squish them with is the best thing I've found.  Makes for some great family time or a way to occupy the kids! (lol)

We used to see who could hit the most with baseball bats.

We had contests with BB guns - make sure there are NO windows close! RW

That sounds like a little more fun.

Go to one of the do it yourself pest control web sites and buy a quality commercial product made to control them.  I have to keep my log home sprayed every month or so but it works great.
