We have March and April calves for the most part except one which stinks because she is one of the best cows which produces one of the best calves but she won't calve until July  :'( and i was wondering when i should castruate these calves what month?

You can really do it whenever but we generally avoid doing it during the summer months when flies are bad.

Is it okay to castrate calves in October or September? I just don't want flies bothering the steers you know what i mean right? I do not like to band steers because we have had some bad luck some i am talking cutting.

U can do it now, but an old man told me to look at the farmers almanac and cut them when the sign is in the hoof, to reduce bleeding. We tried it and they didn't bleed enough to cover my hand.

We use the calicrete bander, and have no problems at all. It's a great product!! Tetnus and off he goes.
