this armchair breeder prefers lots that are different from the rest.

1B, to me the standout lot of the offering.

the rest look too trumpy for me which obviously is ok as lots of people like them.

Those are some nice pictures and a nice offering overall. Didn't look like another Flex or Star Bucks so that's too bad. I definitely will have my eyes on a couple of those lots. I especially like the picture of Sonic on the front cover. I thought, oh look, there's Star Bucks!

not just trying to get all those mad that hate the cates family and what they are doing...but, I have never had a better experience when buying and owneing cattle and the personal relationships that were built than with this family.  I remember not too many years ago that I had called brian about a bred heifer in the offereing that kinda triggered my interest.  I wanted to come down and look at her in perticular.  brian told me on the phone that I would probably be dissapointed with her when I got there, but to come look because he did have others that he thought I may liike more when I seen them in person.  He couldn't have been more right. i realy appriciated his honesty instead of just trying to sell me one that I wouldn't like just to make a sale.  i have had realy good experiences with them, and i haven't done a lot of business with them, but still get treated like there most important customer every time i do.  Just good honest people that make the cattle business fun.  Again, sorry to upset anyone that hates what they are doing.

Anyone is free to not like or not use cattle from the Cates program in their herd, but I do not think anyone can question the integrity this family brings to the business. IMO, the Cates family are models we all should strive to be, when it comes to honesty, friendship and true customer service. In their case, the sale is not over when the animal leaves their yard.
I have had a similar experience as Jacob B, and have always appreciated the honest approach all the Cates have provided to me. They have always given me their honest opinion when asked about certain sale animals and I have found it to be 100% accurate when I have seen the animals in person. A few years ago, I purchased a bull calf in their sale. By the next spring it was very evident that his testicles were not developiong properly. I phoned Brian Cates just to let him know what the situation was, and he immediately wanted to return my money or he was willing to send me a young bull they were planning to use in their own herd.No other questiohs asked. He even wanted to pay me for the feed I had put into him, and any other expenses I may have had. I told him, that it was not my intention to phone to see if I could be reimbursed, and that I was willing to wait another few months to see if the bull changed.I also told him that while I really appreciated his offer to get an excellent replacement bull, I was not going to take his offer of a bull they were planning to use themselves.  There was no changing his mind and he said I would be receiving a cheque in the mail immediately. I knew he was right in that the bull was not going to change, but I also wanted to give him a second chance as \i really liked the bull. The money was returned in full and when I shipped the bull, I sent the proceeds to them. I have heard many similar stories about how they have treated other buyers and I am pretty sure this is one of the reasons this outfit has had such success. Of course, they are producing a product some people are wanting, but their integrity and decent treatment of all people who express interest in their cattle, is also a big part of what makes their success.
This business would be so much better if only we had a few more breeders who followed the example they provide when it comes to treating their customers and potential customers properly. ( and you don't see them bad mouthing what other breeders are doing. They are breeding for a specialized market and know what they need for it) You dont have to like their cattle, and they may not work in your operation, but I think you really have to appreciate the level of integrity they bring to this business.

I couldn't agree more with both of you. Great people and good friends of ours.
