Hi,
This is my first post. I run 4 charolais cows on our small 100 acre farm. I mated them this year with a stud bull borrowed from a friend and they dropped 3 heifers and one bull calf. The bull calf is now 8 months old and outgrowing the older heifers. A few weeks after he was born he developed a large black lump on his neck the size of a tennis ball. I asked around including a vet friend who suspected an abcess caused by a small injury. The advice was to leave it alone. I've attached a photo of him at a few months of age.
Although he is thriving, the lump has never gone. It has no hair, is smooth and able to be moved slightly if you manipulate it. It also bled when he knocked it when in a crush in the stock yards.
Any thoughts? Probably at the stage of getting a vet in but we are a long way from the nearest town and as usual money is tight.
Many thanks - Mark
