We are going to start looking for this years steer project for the kids. This is my sons second year showing steer. Any advice on what to look for to get the best hair quality in a calf.

Almost all of our clubby calves have kept there long hair through summer, but if they have shucked it the ears should be a good sign. Hairy, fluffy ears usually mean they will have good hair.

Not to be rude but don't look for hair look for sound well balanced steer....I've seen more hairy crippled steers this year at county fairs. To many of these kids get caught up in hair and look past the main things needed in a market steer. Hard work and time will put the hair on. Again just my opinion

I agree completely.

1) Balance 2) Soundness 3) Style 4) Attitude 5) Hair

If you can look at the parents of the calf. So you kind of know what the calf will look like in the end

Lots of great calves raised by Steer Planet members. Pick some members close to your home and go start looking through what they  have that may work for your son.
