What kind of cows does the simmy bull Chopper work best on?  Will he add any power to a flatter muscled angus cow?  Thanks.

Personally, I've never used him, and the people I know who have-- haven't used much of it...

but since nobody else is commenting...  I remember seeing Chopper in Denver--

and IMO- yes he might add some thickness to a flat, narrow, bannana legged Angus... but more than likely there are better options out there.

I seen him used 2 years in a row on a Sim x heifer that was above averaged sized and both calves were "nice" and had more muscle than her but he took so much frame off and there was no grow in either of the calves. They kept the nuts in the bull and he weighed 1000 lbs at 15-16 months and will never be big enough to bred a cow.......

I have five straws of chopper I was planning on using myself.  After seeing the simmy shows in Louisville I am more confused than ever.  I also have five straws of fatbut and five straws of grandmaster.  I seen calves out of all these bulls and liked some calves by all three bulls and disliked calves by all three bulls so I find it to be a challange to figure out what cows to use on these three bulls.

Isn't it crazy how sometimes the more you see, the more confused you get? I am the same way. I have been looking for bulls for my april group for the past few months and have just gone around in circles. It is hard to know what to breed these bulls to when you havent seen many (if any) offspring. Often times it is a gamble. I have seen and heard of some good Fat Butts, and I have one coming in March. I hear he works good on cross cows and has occassionally thrown some decent show stuff. I have a Grandmaster daughter who impresses me, but needs more depth. Grandmaster is good for adding calving ease, style and width. I have several Grandmaster calves that will be coming next fall. Chopper, I have seen a total of maybe 4 daughters and I really liked 2 or 3 of them. I had a friend who bred a few to Chopper and none caught and he tried again and the one that caught didn't grow a whole lot and came big. I guess this can happen with any bull, but since I have not seen too many other offspring I am going to wait a while to use him.

Thanks for the imfo.  I have one star power daughter that I was thinking about using grandmaster on and the rest of my cows are mostly chiangus or angus cows.  I only have about 25 cows so I cant afford many wrong breeding decisions.  I liked the top end of the chopper, steel force, upgrade and grandmaster calves that I saw in Louisville.  I only saw one fatt butt calf and she couldnt move very well but its hard to judge a bull by one calf.  I just want to breed some simmys that have some phenotype and still be productive as cows. I have always admired the top end of the simmys and just want to try to breed some good ones.

Anybody know how Chopper healed up after being injured in the tornado that hit REI earlier in the year?
