He was named Reserve Champion Herf Steer today!!!!!! An awfully good steer from Star Lake beat him, but that's okay. Homer (Chris' steer) is the best steer I've seen this year with this kind of weight (1458 at  15 months).  Chris' family has put in SO much time and effort into this steer this summer in Chris' memory, and it really paid off today!  I'm SOOOOOOO glad I have been a part of showing this steer since early this spring, and I'm honored that the Cummings' family has included me into their family, even in these hardest of times.  I really did feel like Chris was here today, and I KNOW he was saying........Ya Reserve was nice....but how about CHAMPION?

I've been to several Grand Drives at the ISF but during the parade of Res Champion Steers the Hereford starts to make his way into the ring and a sollum silence is rushed over the crowd as it's announce about the loss of Chris' battle with cancer.  In a time of usaul talking, laughing, cheering, and clapping a pin drop silence over all who attended in the stands and on the ring floor with the men reaching up and taking off their hats in remembrance of someone that not everyone knew with a moment of silence.  I didn't know Chris personally but he helped me with adding pictures on here when I started visiting Steerplanet. IMO it's something queit amazing that a young person like Chris can have such an impact on so many people.  Even though his parents hearts will never fully mend I would imagine that it must be some piece of mind to see the response of the livestock producers in behalf of their condolences of the loss of a young person. (clapping) (clapping), Congrats & thanks to all that were involved with Chris' steer and for helping out his family in a very hard time. I'm sure that they are going to have great memories of Chris' last calf show.

You are one great guy, and all the others that helped out with his steer for him and his family. At least they will have great memories of Chris's last show. I bet he was smiling down and saying Reserve Champion is great and thanking all of you that helped him. Congrats  (clapping) (thumbsup) <party> <rock> <beer> ;D

Wouldn't this be a greater country if we had more caring farm folks ,cattle people an just the kinda people that honored this young man
who's chance to continue doing good things was cut short .  From watching from the STEER PLANET  sidelines this has been a very heart warming experience .....

You put it well.  It was a bittersweet moment to see Homer without Chris on his lead.  I can only hope in the silence the crowd understood the loss of a fine human being.  I know showing has taken on a whole new outlook for our family and we have Chrs to thank for that.  I know Chris was with us that day.  I hugged his mom and dad.  There were no words to ease into  letting Homer go.  I think their days will be defined as before and after.  I wish for them days filled with memories only they have and a new tomorrow.  Bless all those that supported them.  They are very awed by all the caring the people have shown and are very thankful.
