We finally bought the new farm we were looking at (clapping), and are now in the process of getting things moved. We are turning an unused room into the clipping fitting room, where we can store the showbox, setup the chute and the mats and have a nice secluded place to go at them for a while regardless of what else is going on in the barn. My idea is to paint all the walls bright white (to make it brighter and reflect light better) put 3/4" rubber mat on the existing dirt floor to keep from blowing dust around, and hand several halogen worklights. How are everyone elses set up? I am open to any and all suggestions.

Absolutely paint the walls, ceiling, etc. bright white, it makes a tremendous difference! I also put heavey mats down on my concrete floor - makes it easier on the cattles legs as well as mine. Make sure you have plenty of electricity and outlets wired in convienient places as well - nothing is more frustrating than blowing breakers when you are trying to get something done. I have a high head tie on the wall and 2 removable pipes in the floor - kind of a blocking chute without the head catch if you will that I do most of my clipping in. RW

Main outlet hangs down above the chute so I have a 360 degree swivel with my clipper. I also have three lights. One on top and two on each side of the chute. You can see just about every angle of the animal in light. All  dirt floor though. Need to remedy that.

What's the size of the rooms?  We've got a little area we are trying to convert into a clipper room & wondering if it might be on the small side.

We are using a 14'x14' room. I know it is on the small side, but it will do for now, we plan on adding on to the barn in the spring. Anything is better than clipping in the snow (clapping)

that should allow for ample room for a chute if you want. just make sure their are few shadows. fill in light from every corner and that will help alot.

I like flourescent lights rather than halogens they dont throw the shadows near as bad other than that I clip in an open part of the barn no room wish there was I might put one in next to the wash rack room someday

Might be a little small to do two animals at once.  Ours is 18' x 18'.  That seems about right for two.  Gives room on all sides so you're not stepping on each other.  Ours is an area within a larger barn, not a separate room.  Sometimes they don't want to go through a door into a room.

I have always prefered to clip outside, in the sun.  I even turn the chute around to do the opposite side.  Good thing about Oklahoma is that regardless of the season, we will have nice, sunny days year round.  When you're clipping for a show season that runs the full year, it never takes too long to do a touch-up.

Unfortunatley those folks who live in Ohio during the winter months know we have extremely low light levels. SUmmers are great. Winters, as Showman Q will tell you are gray and ugly. Summers we clip outside.

Quiton, wire some shop lights in to your room. Illuminates from every angle.

You read my mind. I was going to post the exact same thing, but did not want it to be taken as being unaccepting of others' opinions. If I have the choise to clip in or outside, I will drag the chute out the door anyday, but if I am in the zone and need to get one clipped and it is 10 degrees out or looks like rain, I would like to have a place to put them, turn on the stereo and go after it without having to stop halfway through.
