Mark, I like the looks of your bull calf. Whether he is good enough to be promoted is always debatable. Some will say he is, some will say he should be steered. I think from the picture he probably is good enough to be promoted, however, the clubby market is saturated with lots of pretty good bulls, so this is a consideration. If you are willing to spend some money and do it right, you could see good returns, but I don't think this is an area where you go only half ways, or you will see poorer than expected returns.

In your original post, you made mention of our X Ray Vision bull. Yes, he was a very good bull. He sired a bunch of excellent calves. Our steer and heifer markets are limited here in W Canada, so I am sure he could have done more if he was in the Midwest.  He was also clean on both TH and PHA. I still have his dam, and I would flush her back this way again, if I could be assured I could get another TH and PHA clean calf. I am not real interested in propagating carriers. I did have some calves from him sell over $3000 which is pretty decent money for steers and heifers up here.

I also had a white Double Vision son that also did a great job here. I did collect some semen on him, and may go back and use him again if I ever get in the mood to develop a few clubby calves again. We had an internet steer and heifer sale for a couple years, and his calves were always our top sellers.

Allways appreciate your views on things-did you have any semen on the xray? I agree on carriers-and this calf is clean both ways-and my entire herd has been tested.I guess what I meant was maybe show him a little-take him to Iowa beef expo-and run a couple of ads-use him-and let people see the calves. We have birth pictures and agings of Panama reds calves-not all were great all were tiny at birth-that kind of thing. Although not all were my breeding- Lawrence and Ed Grathwohl and me won Louisvile and Denver more times in the 90s with bulls than any other us  breeder(s)- deertrail-Nancy Grathwohl etc-probably had as many first and second females over the years too-so Ive seen a number national champs from birth on-this  calf kinda hits you that way-he could fall apart etc-but there is a spark.

He is a solid calf and you should show him. I would not waste my time or money on trying to make him an A-I bull. There is not alot of money in it for you the bull owner, you just pay all the bills associated with it. Show him at a few shows and if he's good enough someone will want to buy him.

How can anyone say he is straight fronted???????????
