I will be building a cool room this fall inside of our barn.  It will be 30x15 ft and about 9 ft tall.  Right now the barn has a lime floor that is about as hard as cement.  Not the best for drainage.  We were planning on digging that out down to the sand where the cattle will be tied.  I'm looking for suggestions on what kind of base works best for drainage and ammonia control.  Pea rock? Sand?  I have also heard of some type of carbon fabric to lay down under the bedding to control ammonia.  Has anyone else heard of anything like this.

Dig down to sand if you can. Put in pea gravel, top with landscape paper stuff, then top off with cedar fibers. If you keep it clean and wet down to flush down the urine it will stay in great shape and only have to add cedar fiber as needed.
