cost?

i have a question . I HAVE SHOWN a steer before . this year im gettin a heifer. about how much does it cost to show a hefier includeing feed supplies etc....  thanks ;D

Cost of showing a heifer would be very similar to showing a steer as far as supplies and feed.  Variables would be how many shows you attend, the cost of entry fees, distance you travel, etc.

I would say the biggest difference you are going to see is that with your steer, the payday came about a year after purchase. With the hiefer, it will be at least two years before she calves and then another 4-6 months before she starts paying her way. In the end, she will likely be more profitable, but it will take more time to get her there. As said, feed and supplies are going to be pretty consistent across the board, but the heifer will also need to be bred which is going to put you possibly needing to purchase a semen tank, semen, ai tech (or ai school). If your family already has cattle, this will not be as big of an issue, but if you're just starting out and have to buy everthing new that can be a slight dip into your funds. You also may want to spend a little more initially on your heifer to make sure you have a quality individual who will push your program forward after her show career ends. Good luck!
