All of our calves will be born by end of April and we plan to have a sale in the fall. My question is how many days before the sale do you start creep feeding, 60? 90?
Thanks in advance.

I'd say as soon as they will eat grain, I don't raise any calves though. But a guy I helped started them as soon as they would eat it, so that's what I would do.

start creep feeding at 2.5 to 3 months of age.  if you do not want to crrep feed that long you can feed them show feed about 45-50 days prior to sale date and they will look good.  i would creep feed for few months then switch to a show/finish ration before sale.  hope this helps.

We've never had a lot of luck getting spring calves to eat much creep feed when they're on decent pasture. Our sale is late September...we wean around 1st of August and start feeding them then. You can do quite a bit in 60 days with the right kind and amount of ration. We usually try to start the breds about the same time...the sale cattle come out of the pasture with the rest of the cows about 60 days before our sale.

we offer creep at about a month old.. calves will start to nibble at the grain at a few weeks of age, but it's a waste of time to let them have any until then...  but then again, we calve in the fall--  like mentioned above, spring and early summer calves won't hit much grain due to the grass out there-- until atleast they get big enough to venture away from momma and still feel comfortable doing so.
