I don't think that the pink nose has anything to do with diluter genes. 70s & 80s there were a lot of simi, angus, char cross cattle carried the diluter gene and produced the so called rat tails. Breed any potential diluter cattle to NON- diluter bulls to get possible carriers still, but will not have the characteristics themselves. The diluter gene is still out there, but it is easy to find a non- diluter to breed to. We had a rat tail last spring out of a grey EXT cow and Cowboy Cut. I am planning on breeding that heifer to the Simi bull, Hustler this summer.
