With "Shorthorn Breeders" falling over themselves to keep threads like "Failure of the Shorthorn Breed" alive even with pages of unrelated commercial arguments I'm pretty proud that Jaimiediamond can put some positive info out there.

Jaimie....  what a breath of fresh air you are!  After reading many Shorthorns breeders comments for more than a few years, I'm becoming convinced that they must definitely eat their own young. Your blog is positive and refreshing. It tells the Shorthorn story the way many of us see it.  I was raised with Shorthorns but I have also had sizable herds ( over 75 females) of 6 other breeds, and I have dispersed everyone of them, for various reasons and am convinced that this breed has so much to offer the beef industry. Yes, we have some fine tuning to do in some areas, but our problems are not as severe as some would try to make us believe.

Very well done... and I applaud what you are doing. I may even buy you ice cream the next time I see you! Keep up the great work!

I really enjoy the Canadian Shorthorn Association advertisements and strongly feel they have brought a lot of awareness to the positive traits regarding Shorthorns.

I think that if Shorthorn breeders focus on selection of economical traits and functional structurally correct animals and pull together as a group and promote we could easily gain market share. It might be small at first but the more shorthorns we get out there the more momentum we will get.  Even if Shorthorns gain 3 or 4% of the Angus market a year we most likely would not have enough bulls at first to fill the demand.

Take a look at who our elected officials are.  Very glad to see Marty Loving at the table now.  Maybe he'll help the cause. Heard there was supposed to be some money that was set aside for commercial advertisements,  Give Jungles a call, maybe he'll fill you in on what it was spent on instead.

Jamie, great blog and some very good reading material. I really like how you bring all the great things of the breed out for others who might be considering Shorthorn. I might just put a link on my website if you don't mind.  (thumbsup)

I like the ads too but I would like to see more articles, like the ones in Shorthorn Report in multi breed papers, like Cattlemen Magazine. I think it is good to show how well the shorthorn breed actually works" on the farm".  I don't know how to get that done though. I really enjoy your blog, and I have it on my favourites list ! Keep up the good work!!
