Know that I have your attention....

How many of you realized that HSUS approached the national 4-H and got them to agree to have a campaign against horse slaughter? The HSUS then, encouraged the 4-H members to write letters to their congressman supporting the ban. The HSUS then encouraged all 4-H members to become vegetarians.  The National 4-H council agreed to this because "we found that the HSUS had the same goals as our organization".  They accepted PR stuff from HSUS to distribute among the 4-H groups.
Wow... does the FFA allow this also? I know there was a big scuttle about carrie underwood singing at the FFA national convention.

If you want to support 4-H please send your donations directly to your local 4-H groups and programs.

This makes me sick...    I was really pleased to see that at least our state 4-H has come out with a statement that is supportive of animal agriculture

This information is really disturbing.  My kids 4 H club had a bake sale and their leader decided to donate the money to the local humane society in our area, I told them that we couldn't support this bake sale and now our kids go to a different clubs meetings.  I had no idea that this was going on nationally.  Where are we headed next?

Your local Humane Society is probably a good organization to donate to. It's the HSUS you have to look out for.

Local humane societies receive little or no money from HSUS. In fact, HSUS only distrubes one half of one percent of all their money (around $1 for every $200 donated) toward animal shelters.  I would encourage you to ask your local shelter how much money they receive from HSUS, and then, if they have "humane society" in their name, encourage them to change their name to reflect their goal of rescuing animals, and not padding the CEO's pockets or eliminating livestock production.  I would then encourage you to take your fund raising money and purchase pet food and cat liter for that shelter. Run articles in local papers explaining how the local shelter is not related to the HSUS and that their "puppy dog eye tv ads" are really false advertizing.

But, I do applaud your vigilance and concern over what your children are ask to blindly support!  Nice parenting!!!

National 4-H has a facebook page, and much of the uproar can be read on their page, as well as, links to articles and letters from Nat 4-H on the matter.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/4-h?ref=ts

My personal opinion on what happenend is that 4-H was deceieved by HSUS and what they offered to lecture on , and what they actually lectured on were two different things. Don't get me wrong, 4-H should have never entertained having HSUS at an event in the first place IMO.

4-h has been going down hill in the last few years and its disturbing. This push to make everyone equal and every body wins is what is ruining America.

Makes me sick!  I will have to check into this a little more.  Our "off the beaten path" 4-H group won't think highly of stuff like this.  As a new beef leader I will be addressing this at our next meeting with the kids, and more importantly, their parents.

this is pretty funny.  4-H, an organization that prides itself on having kids give speeches, didn't even take the time to investigate HSUS, the person contacting them, asking questions about their agenda, had an equally organized presentation back at HSUS.  compromising with the devil is moving towards them.  HSUS never compromises, kinda like socialism and how we got to where we are today.  but then hey, freedom is so 1770's.  soft tyranny is more effective because they can always scream discrimination, racism, animal rights whatever and the first yeller is what the media gives 90% of the weight of their story since they are 90% socialist themselves.  guns are not in the general welfare of the population.  neither is voting or free speech or dissent.  funny how dissent and violence was so popular during the bush years, but now for some reason, it's racist.  pretty clear what's going on.  rebuttals are no longer allowed because the state knows what's best, always.  that's why i think eventually people are going to wake up and it's too late.  they used the census to find japanese during WWII.  they will use the census and the gun registration to find the guns.  oooooh, they will say i am using fear, but history is replete with these idiots an absolutely no choice.  it's their way or the highway, well really the cemetery.  the general welfare now means the individual is dead.  the smallest minority is now the one who no longer is protected.

chris matthews outraged limbaugh referenced the obama administration as a regime.

funny.

on June 14, 2002, Chris Matthews himself introduced a panel discussion about a letter signed by many prominent leftists condemning the Bush administration's conduct of the war on terror. "Let's go to the Reverend Al Sharpton," Matthews said. "Reverend Sharpton, what do you make of this letter and this panoply of the left condemning the Bush regime?"

more fake outrage by the left.  but they get away with it because the american public is lazy.

also interesting in how the left is trying to portray the right as violent, but says nothing about reconquista, mecha, lulac, la raza, black panthers and a variety of other ethnic and race based progressive organizations.

let the liberals donate to them.  the best way to support your local humane society is to take an animal home and give them strays.

what it does is tax the economic infrastructure of liberals more than their opponents who they wish to see dead, just like most of their animals.

This is just one more thing to add too the fire that this country is going down the wrong path, this crazy stuff has to stop in this country.  We need to clean house in Nov.  As a farmer and a cattle producer, it's time to understand what they are starting to do too the American farmer.  When HUSU starts to get involved in 4-h, what is next?  Does anyone that is ahead of 4-H have a brain in their head?

Thank you Show Heifer for bringing this to our attention.  Our family has been involved in 4-H at least since my dads generation.

Post on their facebook page you feelings.  We will definately have to rethink our position of 4-H if they don't clear this up.

This is very disturbing. I am pretty sure FFA is safe though because I cant see the National FFA Organization letting anyone like that in.

Another thing is to send an email of make a phone call to your Congressman and Senator. Also since 4H gets funding from the States and counties you should let them know of you displeasure. Also there is a "head clover" in each state, find out who they are and make a phone call.

What you want from your Congressional delegations is for them to ask the head of the USDA and Secretary of Agriculture what is going on.

We need to push back....hard!

My wife and myself were as shocked as anyone when we heard about this.  My wife is the 4h agent for our County and works with over 300 children ages 9 to 19.  I think voicing our concerns to the National 4H organization is a very good thing and from what we understand the point has been made.  However, just boycotting this institution or calling for it's dismantling will do way more harm than good and would most likely be HSUS end goal.  We need to use this as a teachable moment for all involved.  The last thing we want to do is ruin  a truly great organization that has been developing leaders for the past 100 years.  What will this world look like if we rid ourselves of 4H and FFA as some states are trying to do?  Who then will be teaching our children life skills?  We do not by any means agree with allowing HSUS to present or even be affiliated with any 4H activity, but we need to be careful in what we wish for in the same breath.

I have to agree with Joshua on this one, I do know Kansas 4-H has already come out and made a statement on this.  I would think with the budget cuts and states out of money the last thing you would want to do is call your Congressman and Senator, at the state or national level, most of them do not understand agriculture and they are just looking for ways to cut.  Let's not through the baby out with the bathwater!
