Hey everyone,

Has anyone shown under either Randy Daniel of Colbert, GA (Partisover Ranch)  or Jon Davis of Gallipolis, OH?  Preferences and does Davis have an issue w/ white markings? Thanks in advance.

We have showed under Randy Daniel before. I like him a lot. He doesn't seem very political and seems to pick the right ones. He will go with heifers that are femine with lots of style. He also picks heifers that appear to be really easy doing. What show is he judging?

i think that daniel judged the AGS show in columbus a couple years back. i don't remember much about it but the boys seem to pick good judges so he must have qualified.

Randy Daniel is a well respected cattleman and has judged shows everywhere. He was at NAILE last year but I can't remember what breed. He will definitely use good solid cattle that can move.

We have shown under Randy Daniels several times and he is a pleasure.  He is very personable, great with the kids and does a nice job lining them up.

I've known Randy for more than 30 years - shown under him, sorted his cattle at shows and shared a few beers talking cattle - he's one of the best out there.  If you bring a good one, Randy will find it. Very practical in how he picks them.  They have to be sound and look like they have some longevity.  While he likes them to look "pretty", he'll sacrifice a little eye appeal to get one with some mass and volume - he talks a lot about cattle being productive in their appearance and he picks them that way.  Frame tends to float a little, although he doesn't usually like the real big ones.  If he's sorting steers, Randy is one of the few that knows what's under the hide and will try to use cattel with the right kind of carcass - but he realizes it's a show so they need to have "the look" of a show steer.

Hope that helps - but bottom line is he'll have the best ones at the top.

NAILE Jr. Simmy Show

How do you know he is judging the simmy show.  The book lists 4 judges for the jr. heifer show and doesn't designate which breed each of them will judge.  If you know for sure, who is judging the AOB class??

Look under the 2008 Judges link on the website. I'll check AOB in a sec. I just figured this out a few days ago, before that I was also sweating about which one of the judges was sorting which show.

Thanks everyone for the new positive outlook I have on my first trip to Louisville, I have the best cattle I have ever had, and if he sorts the good ones to the top, then I'll be happy wherever I land.

THANKS, I have looked at the site a zillion times but hadn't seen that listing.  Wonder what Donnie Robertson likes in heifers? ;D

We are also going to be taking the bull calf for the open show so we will see how the judging goes.

I wish you the best of luck.

Have you shown there before, if so, what is the best (clean and reasonably priced) hotel that is easy enough to find in the area?
Thanks,
Sarah

I live 35 minutes from there!  ;D  Shown horses and cattle there.  If I were you I would check the hotels in Jeffersonville Indiana and Sellersburg Indiana.  They are less than 15 minutes from the fairgrounds and much more reasonable.  Both are right on I 65 so getting to the fairgrounds and back is not a problem.  BTW, I LOVE the NAILE, so much better than the State Fair.  The youth barn can get a little crowded and hectic but the open barn is usually pretty good.  And if you are showing youth and open they usually let you stall all of them in the open barn.

I think we are just going for the junior show, the simmy open show is the first of the week, but they don't let you go until Friday. (Isn't that right) Do you think that they would let me go after our show for school even though I'm homeschooled?

Thanks for the tips on the hotels. Your lucky to be so close. We're going to  have a 12 hour drive to get up there. Coming from SW AL.

check w/ your breed association. A lot of times they have a block of rooms at a discount rate. I would advise staying at the holiday Inn by the airport. Terrible food, they didn't clean our room one day & just over all not the best. The Executive across from the expo is used by many people. You just have to be prepared to do a lot of walking.
The NAILE is my favorite show by far. It killed me when we couldn't show this year. I'm hoping we can maybe get down for the Maine show at least.
