The best one I have seen, is in Oklahoma. They marked the ground where a feeder steer would pee and where a two year old heifer would, then dug it out two foot deep and filled it with one inch rock, then put landscaping mesh over the rock so the cedar fiber wouldn't fill the rock. They run 50 to 60 head through that cooler every year and never have any problems

We used 3 runs of 2inch pvc pipe with 3/16 wholes drilled in it about every 3-4 inches all the way around the pipe and run them across the pen starting where the middle of a calf would be going towards the back of the pen then backfill them with pee gravel and topped with a landscape mesh. Each of the lines has a cleanout at the wall and we try to flush them out once a week just to keep the water moving and the pipes clean. Just make sure you use a smooth wall pipe to keep small particules from sticking inside and pluging it up.
